History / Biographical
William Edgar "Billie" Morgan was born in 1867 in Kerwood, ON. He was educated at Kerwood and Strathroy before obtaining his teaching permit. He taught in Ontario for several years before coming west in the late 1880s. Billie completed his teacher training in Brandon before teaching at Blythe and Stratherne schools. Billie left the teaching profession in 1900 to take up farming. An avid baseball and football fan, Billie Morgan died on March 31, 1951. Jennie Kennedy Smith was born in 1869 and came to the Oakleigh district in the Rapid City area with her family as a young girl. Jennie attended Rapid City High School and took normal training at Brandon. She taught at Oak River and several schools north of Brandon. Jennie married Billie Morgan in 1896. Together they had eleven children: Milton, Duncan, Ralph, William, Eva, Alexander, Marjorie, Georgina, Laura, Francis and Mac. Jennie Morgan died in 1942. They are both buried at Methven Cemetery. Georgina Kennedy Duce (nee Morgan) was born on the family farm in the Treesbank district in 1900. Georgina received her education at Stratherne School. She worked for a branch of the Royal Bank and the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company from 1918 until her marriage to Charles E.A. Duce (1902-1970) in 1939. The couple had one son, Bill. Georgina Duce died on March 29, 1988 in Wawanesa, MB. She is buried at Rounthwaite Cemetery. Malcolm Kitchener "Mac" Morgan was the youngest member of the W.E. Morgan family. Born on the home farm on July 27, 1916, Mac worked for the Wawanesa Mutual Insurance Company in Wawanesa and Regina and later was employed at Auto-Pac. He also spent three years in the Army. Mac retired in 1981. Mac married Mary Maxine Campbell (1919-1993) in 1942. They did not have any children. Mac Morgan died on August 7, 1984 in Wawanesa, MB. He is buried at Methven Cemetery.
Custodial History
As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.
