This collection contains photographs of Brandon and Area that do not belong to particular collections or fonds held at the S.J. McKee Archives. It is, in short, an artificially created collection.
The collection has been divided into the following series: (1) Rural Images; (2) Urban Images; (3) Transportation; (4) Education; (5) Portraits; (6) Associations; (7) and Athletics.

In addition to this collection, photographs relating to Brandon and area may be found in the Lawrence Stuckey collection, the Alf Fowler collection, the A.E. McKenzie Company fonds, Hughes and Company collection, and the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba Association fonds.

The Brandon Armoury was built in 1907. The extension on the southside was built in 1937.
Custodial History
The photograph was donated to the Archives by Cy Kenny in 2005.
Scope and Content
Photograph is looking northwest from the east side of 11th Street. It shows the back and east side of the Brandon Armoury, which is located on the at 1116 Victoria Avenue.
The Brandon Club, designed in 1904 by local architect and builder W.R. Marshall, was Brandon's oldest chartered club. It was located at 158 11th Street. In the early years as an exclusive institution, the club boased such notable members as Sir Clifford Sifton, Senator J.N. Kirchoffer, and Sir R.P. Roblin. The Brandon Club closed its doors c. 2005. At present (June 2007), it is the future home of Lennon Trilogy, professional land surveyors.

Custodial History
Photograph was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1997. Prior custodial history is unknown. The photograph may have belonged to Mary Kathleen Hollies as the initials M.K.H. are written on the back of the photo.

Portrait of the students of Brandon Collegiate Institute (BCI) Form IV class.
Notes
"Dum Vivimus Viscamus" is written on the back of the photo in pencil.
The "flats" refers to the Assiniboine River floodplane from 18th Street to First Street on either side of the river. See p. 223 of G.F. Barker's Brandon: A City for a description of the 1922 flood.

The photo was owned by Mrs. Wes Railton prior to its donation to the Archives.

Photograph contains an image of houses on the Assiboine floodplane (Brandon's "flats") submerged in flood-waters.
Brandon Hardware Co. Ltd. founded in 1882, making it one of Brandon's earliest mercantiles. It was incorporated in 1902, and their location on Rosser Avenue at the corner of 7th Street was constructed in 1903. For a number of years, J.B. Curran was the managing director. The building was destroyed by fire in 1983.

Katy Singleton was given this photo in her role as Heritage Coordinator for the City of Brandon. She transferred it to the McKee Archives in 2013.

History / Biographical
The Brandon Insane Asylum was located on the north bank of the Assiniboine River, two miles north of Brandon. It had a southern aspect.
