[By "PC" Mr. Stuckey likely meant to indicate Park School (built 1904, demolished 1978). Park School was, at the time the photo was taken, located directly across Lorne Avenue from Stanley Park. P.E. 22/07/09]

It was formerly owned by the Great Northern Railway, and was acquired by the CPR when the GN line was abandoned in 1936. In 1978 Marathon Realty (CPR) sold this 7 acre property to a developer who planned to build condominiums. However this residential development was objected to for two reasons: [The proposed location] was home to many species of flora & fauna, and it was too close to the CPR mainline. Local residents took out a petition against the development. [Mr. Stuckey] wrote a letter to the editor of the Brandon Sun, [expressing the] attitudes of CPR officials, and read a statement to the Provincial Planning Board suggesting development be refused and the area become an undeveloped park. These efforts would prove successful - see file on same.

Mr. Stuckey originally placed 32 negatives in one envelope labeled “M – Presidents of Fair Boards 1882 – 1972”; We have separated and renumbered these negatives as M30(1) to M30(32) inclusively; Records of the Provincial Exhibition Association are held in the S.J. McKee Archives (RG2) including photos of board members.
Henri Georges Francq was born September 11, 1904 in Charleroi, Belgium. He was educated at Licencie L.S.C. in Antwerp (1924) before joining he father's import/export firm. He lived in France, Algeria and Spain before emigrating to Canada in the early 1960s. Francq obtained Canadian citizenship in 1975.
In 1963-1964, Francq taught French at Swan River Collegiate, before joining the faculty of Brandon University in 1964. For the next ten years Francq taught French, Linguistics and French Literature, and from 1970-1972 he was Acting Head of the Department of French. Francq also organized serveral French festivals in Brandon and lectures of visiting professors from France and the University of Alberta, and introduced the program of Voix et Images de France at Brandon Univeristy. After his retirement in 1974, he was accorded the status of Professor Emeritus (French).
During his career Francq was also the head of the Department of French at the Banff Summer School of Fine Arts (1968), and invited to give lectures and poetry recitals (in French) at: St. Boniface College; the University of Calgary; the University of Regina; the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon); Simon Fraser University; the University of Victoria; and the University of Western Ontario. In addition to these activities, Francq was also a prolific writer; he is the author of approximately fourteen fiction and non-fiction books in both English and French, as well as numerous articles. His wide interests included satire and history, as well as ficition.
Henri Francq, who was survived by his wife Yvonne, died in Brandon on May 5, 1991.

History / Biographical
Ken Coleman was born in Virden, Manitoba and attended Brandon University from 1970 to 1975; he graduated with a B.A. in Economics and Geography in 1974 and then completed the professional year of teacher training. During his time at Brandon University he served as student manager of the Bobcat hockey team. Coleman was inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame in 1996.
From 1982-1985, Coleman taught in Birtle, Manitoba. He spent the next three years working for the Brandon Wheat Kings. From 1988 until his retirement in May 2006, he worked in the newspaper business.
At present (April 2007), Ken Coleman is single and continues to live in Brandon.

Fonds consists of a copy of "Campus Hockey: It's more than a game" compiled by Ken Coleman, Class of 1974. The book contains players lists (with statistics) and team profiles for the Brandon College years (1909-10 to 1966-67) and players lists (with statistics), coaching records, team profiles, scoring champions, career scorers, career goaltenders and career scoring leaders for the Brandon University years (1967-68 to 2001-02). The book also includes lists for the Honour Roll (1956-57 to 2001-02), school awards (1952-53 to 2001-02) and the Bobcats Hall of Fame (1993-2000). Finally, the book contains black and white copied photographs of many of the teams.

The Snye was a former channel (oxbow lake) of the Assiniboine River. It was located south of the Assiniboine between about 14th and 24th Streets, and during high water in the spring it carried overflow. For many years it was used as a log storage area for Hanbury's Mill. I remember there being bridges over it at 18th & 22nd Streets. It was dammed with a one way flipper valve at 14th Street that allowed water to flow out to the river, but prevented river water backing into it. Water within the Snye became stagnant in summer and formed a breeding area for mosquitoes. It was deemed a health hazard and the river was gradually filled in. LAS.

Frances Elizabeth Percival (nee Fraser) attended Brandon College in 1928-1929. She was from Wawanesa, Manitoba and passed away on August 3, 2004 at the age of 93 years.
Custodial History
The records were donated to the McKee Archives by Joy Lalonde, a realtive of Fran Percival's, in 2005.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of three dance cards from the Brandon Normal School, a photograph album of Brandon College students and activities (many of them identified) and an autographed copy of the 1929 Brandon College Annual Graduation Program.
