Marguerite Clemintine "Margaret" Catley (nee Jamieson) was born on May 14, 1916 in Hamiota, MB. She moved to Brandon, MB in 1935, where she worked as a nurse until retiring in 1974. Marg married Oswald Roy Catley (?-1987) in Brandon on September 3, 1949. They had no children. Margaret was a member of Naomi Rebekah Lodge. Margarget Catley died on December 22, 1992 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Margaret Ida Oliver Wetherill (nee Mack) was born on May 26, 1912 in the Rural Municipality of Langord. She lived in Oberon from 1912-1967, and then moved to Neepawa. Margaret married Austin Verril Oliver (1904-1971) in 1934 and together they had two children: Stanley and Karen. During her marriage Margaret was a housewife, but she also served as a trustee for the Beautiful Plains School Division and held a number of offices in the Manitoba Farmer's Union from 1955-1968. Following her first husband's death, Margaret married Arnold William Wetherill (1913-1995). The couple enjoyed travelling in their retirement. Margaret Wetherill died between 2006 and 2016. She is buried at Riverside Cemetery in Neepawa, MB.

Chester James McFadden was born on April 25, 1897 at Bradwardine in the RM of Daly. In 1904, his family moved to Broadview Farm southeast of Rivers, MB. Chester started school at Bradwardine, then attended Pendennis school. He continued his education at Rivers Collegiate. Chester farmed with his father until 1917, when he joined the Royal Flyng Corps, and again from 1919-1926. In 1926, Chester purchased the family farm. Margaret "Madge" Rutherford was born September 23, 1896 at Wheatland in the RM of Daly. She attended Daly school. Prior to her marriage, Madge took homemaking training at Manitoba Agricultural College and training in nursing at the Brandon General Hospital. She was also a homemaker for her father and brother. Chester and Madge married on November 27, 1926. They raised their two children, Donald and Eileen, on Broadview Farm. Although they built their semi-retirement home overlooking Lake Wahtopanah in 1964, Chester continued to farm Broadview until he was 75, and continued to be actively involved in operations for another ten years after that. In 1984, Chester and Madge moved into Rivers.
Madge was a member of Daly Church and Rivers United Church, Daly Ladies' Aid, Rivers Ladies' Aid, Women's Missionary Society, the United Church Women, the Rivers Women's Institute and the Pendennis Guild of the Riverdale Hospital Auxiliary. Chester served Rivers Methodist Church and later Rivers United Church as a Tuxis boys' group leader in the 1920s and over the years as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent, a church elder and board member. He was also a trustee of the Rivers Consolidated School District for 25 years, a long-time member of the Manitoba Pool Elevators, and the Brandon Consumers Co-op. Madge McFadden died February 11, 1989 in Rivers, MB. Chester McFadden died May 9, 1989 in Brandon, MB. They are both buried at Rivers Cemetery.

Guy Masson "Bay" Smith was born on June 7, 1899 in Glenboro, MB. He graduated from Glenboro High School and then relieved his father in the post office while the latter served on a Military Tribunal. Bay enlisted with the Royal Air Force in 1918. For a short time he was the manager of a cream buying station in Glenboro before moving to Corning, SK in 1924, where he was an agent for Imperial Oil. In 1929, Bay returned to Glenboro to take over the Post Office duties from his mother, Elizabeth Alice Smith. Smith was appointed postmaster in 1950, and continued in that position until he retired in 1965. Under his leadership, a new post office was built in 1954; upon his retirement he sold the Smith Block and Post Office building. Smith married Mayme McKnight (1899-1977) in December 1923 and together they raised two children: Tannys and Robert.
Bay was active in community life. He was a charter member of the local Kiwanis Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He served long tenures on the Rink Committee, the Glenboro branch of the Red Cross and the Glenboro Board of Trade. He was a past president of the Junior and Senior Bands, was Secretary of the South Cypress Centennial Committee, and treasurer of the annual Fun Fair. He was a founding member of and helped design the local course at the Glenboro Golf Club. Bay Smith died on September 16, 1997 in Glenboro, MB.

Hazel B. Smith was born on May 14, 1906 in Toronto, ON and moved to a farm south of Carberry with her family when she was 2 years old. The family then moved to Arizona, MB, then back to Carberry while she was quite young. Hazel attended country school and then school in Carberry. She took nurses training at Winnipeg General Hospital but was unable to finish her second year due to health problems. Although unable to complete her training, Hazel helped with maternity cases and did some home nursing after returning to Carberry in the 1930s. In the years after the Second World War she worked in a doctor's office. She also worked at the Children's Hospital (BC?), a logger's hospital at Alert Bay, spent two years at Fox Memorial Hospital, then moved to Sioux Lookout. Upon returning to Manitoba she worked with the Inuit and then spent nine years at Grace Hospital after she and her mother settled in Selkirk, MB. Arthritis forced her to change occupations and in 1967 Hazel was hired as custodian for the then new Carberry Library. She retired in 1969, and was replaced by Audrey Harburn. Hazel never married. Hazel Smith died on May 3, 1996 in Winnipeg, MB. She is buried at the family plot in Carberry, MB.

Vella May Smith (nee McLean) was born on November 25, 1900 in Golden Stream, MB. She attended Golden Stream School. She was briefly employed as a stenographer for the Bank of Montreal before marring Guildord James Smith (1887-1961) in Gladstone in 1922. The couple lived in Gladstone until 1924, when they moved to the Lidstone district. On the farm, they raised four children: James Alexander, Nina, Sheila and Irene. In 1957, Vella took a position as a cook in Flin Flon, then in 1959 she began working as a cook for the CNR. She remained in that position until 1961. Vella retired in 1965. Vella enjoyed music, particularly playing the piano, gardening, sewing, and was a skilled horsewoman. In her early years, she acted as a community nurse. She was a member of the Lidstone Women's Institute and the Merry Mixers senior's group. Vella Smith died on December 31, 1991 in Swan River, MB. She is buried at Birchwood Cemetery.

Robert Alexander Smith was born on March 25, 1901 at Madford-Ingelow, MB. He attended Matheson school and farmed in the Ingelow district. The family farm, 2-12-17, was sold in 1951, and Robert moved to Winnipeg where he was employed with the International Harvester Company and Triange Auto Supply. Robert met Martha Buchanon Thorburn (1917-2010) when they were both Scout leaders and actively involved with Chalmers United Church in Winnipeg. The couple married in 1955, and together they had one son, Alexander. Robert and Martha retired in 1971, and moved to Douglas, MB. Robert Smith died on November 30, 1983 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Carberry Plains Cemetery.

Margaret Menzies was born on July 30th, 1920, at a family farm located in Oakburn, Manitoba. She grew up on the family farm and attended school in both Oakburn and Shoal Lake. She married Donald Menzies on June 4th, 1941. Together they had four children. In 1959, the family moved to Brandon, Manitoba, where they lived for the rest of their lives.
Margaret Menzies was a longtime and active member of the International Toastmistress Club (ITC), and was also involved in the Consumers Association of Canada, Seniors for Seniors, as well as being a member of the Liberal Party of Canada and the Central United Church. Menzies did not graduate from high school in her early years, but managed to continue her education and receive a bachelor of arts degree from Brandon University at the age of 70.
Margaret Menzies passed away on June 9th, 2012.

Scope and Content
Collection contains of two scrapbooks created by Margaret Menzies. The scrapbooks contain various cards, itinerary's, and other documents associated with Menzies' membership in the International Toastmistress Club. The items in the scrapbooks date from the mid 1980's to the late 1990's.
Also included in the collection are four local history books. The first is a 100 year history of the town of Oakburn, Manitoba, from 1870 to 1970, published during celebrations of Manitoba's centenniary in 1970. Next is a book about the history of the town of Shoal Lake, Manitoba, which was published in 1959 on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the town of Shoal Lake in 1909. The last two books are the first and second volumes of Ripples on the Lake, which cover the history of the Shoal Lake municipality from 1884. The first volume covers the first 100 years of the history of the Shoal Lake region, being published in 1984. The second volume was published in 2007, covering the history of Shoal Lake since 1984, as well as including new information that was not published in the 1984 version of the book.
Finally, the collection contains one photograph of Margaret Menzies receiving her bachelor of arts degree from Peter Hordern, dean of arts of Brandon University.

Margaret Hawley Speers was born on February 18, 1908 in Alexander, MB. She attended Alexander School, Brandon College (Class of 1928), the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba receiving Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Educaton degrees.
Speers had a lengthy teaching career, first as Principal of schools in Saskatchewan at Ravenscrag and Scotsguard, then in Manitoba at Basswood, Newdale and Miniota. In Winnipeg, she taught at Rupertsland Girls' School, and then in Winnipeg School Distric No. 1 at Cecil Rhodes, River Heights and Kelvin High School.
Following her retirement Speers enjoyed travelling and various forms of volunteer work, including that at the Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She was also a member of St. Andrew's River Heights United Church.
Margaret Hawley Speers died September 26, 2008 at St. Boniface Hosptial.
