Eric Bamford Gowler was born on September 2, 1901 in Toronto, ON. His family moved to Grenfell, SK in 1904, and that is where he received his schooling. From 1920-1926, Eric worked as a bank clerk for Dominion Bank in Grenfell, Regina and Boissevain, moving to the latter in 1923. In 1926, Eric resigned from the bank and formed a partnership with George McDonald in an implement business. The partnership was dissolved in 1935. Subsequently, Eric took on an International Harvester dealership for tractors and machines. In 1946, his dealership was the first International Harvester dealer outside of the United States to be modernized. A significant portion of the business' success, was the publication of the adversising bulletin, "The Waggin' Tongue," which ran for twenty-two years. Eric retired in 1961, selling the business, but not the building, to John McDonald, Hugh Broadfoot and R. Nicholson. Eric married Mildred Welch (1900-1971) in 1927 and together they had two sons: Douglas and James. Eric Gowler died in 1990.
Hugh Gibson Broadfoot was born on July 2, 1935. When Gowler retired from the impliment business, Hugh bought into the company along with John McDonald and R. Nicholson. Hugh married Judith Elaine Smith (1939-2022) on May 26, 1962 and together they had four children: Devron, Jason, Susan and Shirley. Hugh Broadfoot died on April 4, 2015 in Boissevain, MB. He is buried at Boissevain and Morton Cemetery.

As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. Hugh Armstrong was born on March 16, 1922 at Vista, MB. He attended Perth School before farming at home with his father. He later farmed his grandfather, John D. McKinnon's, land SW 4-19-24. In 1981, the farm received a Century Family Farm Award. Hugh married Dorothy Breakey (1923-2014) in 1944, and together they had three children: Katherine, Foster and Grant. Hugh Armstrong died on April 26, 2004. He is buried at Rossburn Municipal Cemetery.

Thomas Willard Harper Switzer was born on December 4, 1901 in the Fairview District of North Cypress municipality. For a time Willard worked with the CPR, stationed at Bienfait and Napinka, before he decided to go into farming southeast of Carberry. Willard married Margaret E Cann (1906-1988) on February 9, 1927 in Chater, MB and together they had two daughters, Marion and Shirley. The couple retired from the farm to Carberry in 1952, where Willard began cabinet-making. He also worked as a mechanical engineer at Fox Memorial Hospital until retiring in 1966. Willard was a longtime member of Carberry United Church, a life member of the Carberry Horticultural Society, served for many years as a Fair Board Director and was involved in the creation of the Carberry Plains Museum. In 1974, he was asked to design and built the cairn at the elementary school, along with overseeing the placement of the bell. Willard Switzer died on March 25, 1996 in Carberry, MB. He is buried at Carberry Plains Cemetery.

Hugh McPherson was born January 25, 1845 at West River, Nova Scotia. He married Margaret Esther Sellers (b. March 18, 1849 at Six Mile Brook, Nova Scotia) on February 5, 1875 at Six Mile Brook, Nova Scotia. The couple moved to Brandon Hills, MB c. 1880. Together they had four children: Georgina (Georgie) Jane; Harriet (Hattie); Johnston (Jack); and Angus.
The couple lived at Watervale, NS until they moved to Manitoba with the Brandon Hills settlers. Hugh travelled to Brandon Hills with the Roddick group in 1879, leaving his wife and three children in Nova Scotia. He selected the N.E. 1/4 of section 10, township 9, range 18 as his homestead. Margaret and the children joined Hugh in 1880.
Situated as it was just north of the river and slightly to the east of the end of the hills, the McPherson home became a sopttin house for travellers from the south making their way to and from Grand Valley and later Brandon. The family records show that literally scores of people stayed with the family during the early years. The fee charged for a meal for the driver plus feed for a team was thirty-five cents. Nellie McClung later described the farm and the stopping-house in one of her early books.
Hugh McPherson died at Brandon Hills, MB on March 7, 1916. Margaret Esther Sellers McPherson died at Brandon Hills, MB on July 13, 1935.
In the fall of 1892, Margaret's brother, Angus Sellers and his family arrived at the McPherson home. Included in this part was Margaret's two sisters Jessie Murray and Libby Sellers. The Sellers family remained with the McPherson's until mid-summer of 1893, when they moved to their new farm at Bunclody.
In 1902, after the death of his wife Blanche, Arthur Prowse accepted Margaret McPherson's offer to foster his daughters Winnie and Kitty. The girls stayed with the McPherson's until their marriages; Winnie to Alex Brown and Kitty to Frank Allbright.
