Don LeQuesne, Assistant Professor of Art and Art Education at Brandon College 1962-1965, came here from the Toronto area where he had been Supervisor of Art in the Pickering school system for several years and had taught Art Methods in the Summer School for Teachers at the Ontario College of Education. His parents came to Canada from the Channel Islands. Don grew up at a number of places in Quebec. He obtained the BFA degree from Mount Allison University. This picture was painted while he was on study leave at the University of Georgia in the first half of 1964. (1969 inventory)
Mrs. Busch is a long-time resident of Shellmouth, Manitoba, where her husband operated a general store for many years (shown in the painting). They live (1965) above the former store. (1969 inventory)

Image of the southside of the 1100 block of Rosser Avenue in winter. Visible are O.L. Harwood Ltd., the Key Kafe and Northern Auto Parts. The Perth's building, located in the 1200 block, can be seen on the righthand side in the background. A number of vehicles, a pedestrian and a man shovelling snow are also visible.
Some damage to matting, especially on the back. Photograph is good. There are two brads in the matting (one on the left edge, one on the right edge). The brads are connected to a (broken) red ribbon likely used to hang the photograph.

The Brandon Daily Sun ("Storm Extends Over a Large Territory," 17 Nov. 1906, 1) reported that rail and telegraph services had been disrupted, country roads were impassable, and business in town was at a stand still. Following the weekend, the daily reported the blizzard was one of the greatest in recent memory. CPR trains had been caught in drifts by Carberry and an express car had caught fire and was destroyed ("Worst Storm in Many Years," Brandon Daily Sun, 19 Nov. 1906, 1).

John Dickson (b. 17 Mar 1854, Scotland; d.15 April 1926, Brandon) was considered one of Brandon’s pioneer dentists. Dickson immigrated to Canada in 1857, where he lived in Hamilton, Ontario, for a number of years. Dickson then came to Manitoba and operated a grocery in Chater before he studied dentistry, graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1886.
