Severely dusty, especially the velvet mat. Velvet mat is clotted together in top and bottom middle area. Left arm of frame is slightly dented along backside edge.
Don LeQuesne, Assistant Professor of Art and Art Education at Brandon College 1962-1965, came here from the Toronto area where he had been Supervisor of Art in the Pickering school system for several years and had taught Art Methods in the Summer School for Teachers at the Ontario College of Education. His parents came to Canada from the Channel Islands. Don grew up at a number of places in Quebec. He obtained the BFA degree from Mount Allison University. This picture was painted while he was on study leave at the University of Georgia in the first half of 1964. (1969 inventory)
Paul Panton, a native of Melita, and now a resident of Boissevain, began art lessons with Miss Helen Douglas in New Westminster, B.C.. He continued study with Joe Plaskett at the Vancouver School of Art. During 1962 to 1964 he studied with Steve Repa at the Brandon Allied Arts Centre. The artist held several solo exhibitions in B.C. and Manitoba. (BU Art Catalogue, 1983)

Mrs. Busch is a long-time resident of Shellmouth, Manitoba, where her husband operated a general store for many years (shown in the painting). They live (1965) above the former store. (1969 inventory)
Rain-in-the-Face 'Iromagaja'. The first photograph of Rain-in-the-Face, taken shortly before his arrest and incarceration at Fort Lincoln in 1874. He was one of the leaders during the Fetterman disaster of 1866, the worst defeat the U.S. Army had suffered on the frontier up to that time. His prowess as a warrior continued throughout the Sioux Wars. Wounded and lamed during the fight, he led his band against Custer, and later followed Sitting Bull into exile in Canada. Rain-in-the-Face and his followers surrendered to General Miles at Fort Keogh, Montana, in September of 1880. (Harbaugh, P., 1982)
