Built in 1914 and located on the south side of Louise Avenue, west of 23rd Street. An extension to the south was added at a later date.
[Mr. Stuckey] attended this school from the fall of 1927 to the summer of 1933, grades 1-6, with one room for each grade. Teachers [that Mr. Stuckey] remembered: Grade 1 - Mrs. Mary Wilson (widow); Grade 2 - Miss Mary Harrison, Miss Harrap; Grade 3 - Miss Pottinger; Grade 4 - Miss Doak; Grade 6 - Mr. Allan Mitchell (married Miss Harrap). Principal 1927-28: Mr. Wood, Principal 1934: Mr. Allan Mitchell.

Built 1882. Sold to Hughes & Co. July 1, 1905. Became part of Strathcona Block, built on front out to 10th Street in 1905.
[From 1871 to 1890 the Manitoba school system was based on the Quebec model of religiously-aligned primary education. As such, Brandon’s first Central School was actually the first school built as part of the Brandon Protestant School Board. In contrast, St. Joseph’s Academy provided education to the children of Brandon’s Catholic community and was overseen by its own Catholic school board. The fountain for people was in the small basin at the rear. From there, wasted water went through a pipe to the large basin in front to be used for dogs and, no doubt, horses on occasion. This was one of two drinking fountains on the fair grounds - the other being by the children's paddling pool just inside the main gate on 13th St. In addition to the two fountains on the fair grounds, there was also one on Eighth St. across from the Baubier Hotel in the early days (Brandon: A City, Barker, p. 52). Old McLaren School on Provincial Exhibition grounds
During the mid-1930s the economy and popularity of light, fast passenger trains were proven in the USA by the Burlington’s "Zephyr", the Rock Island’s "Rocket", and the Milwaukee Road’s "Hiawatha". In 1936 the CPR built engines 3000-3004, designing each to haul a lightweight baggage car and three day coaches. Before being assigned to "The Chinook" between Calgary and Edmonton, engine 3001 and its train made an extensive publicity tour of western Canada.
[Built by Montreal Locomotive Works in 1936, this class of five F2a 4-4-4 locomotives (3000 - 3004) were named "Jubilee" type in honour of the 50th anniversary of CPR transcontinental service. P.E.]
