This wedge-shaped tract of woodland was located west of 34th Street on the south side of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It was formerly owned by the Great Northern Railway, and was acquired by the CPR when the GN line was abandoned in 1936. In 1978 Marathon Realty (CPR) sold this 7 acre property to a developer who planned to build condominiums. However this residential development was objected to for two reasons: [The proposed location] was home to many species of flora & fauna, and it was too close to the CPR mainline. Local residents took out a petition against the development. [Mr. Stuckey] wrote a letter to the editor of the Brandon Sun, [expressing the] attitudes of CPR officials, and read a statement to the Provincial Planning Board suggesting development be refused and the area become an undeveloped park. [This station, located 13 km north of Brandon on the east side of PTH 10, was] built in the early 1930s to replace Knox as the CNR’s mainline station for Brandon. All passenger trains stopped and buses operated between the CNR’s Brandon station and Brandon North to meet all trains. It was enlarged as shown here in late 1930s, and at peak operation in the 1940s & 1950s saw six daily passenger trains 1 - 2 & 3 - 4 “Continental Limited” and 11 - 12 locals. VIA trains 3 and 4 "Supercontinental" ceased operation Nov. 15, 1981 leaving no passenger service on the former Grand Trunk Pacific mainline of CNR [at that time]. This station was demolished in the fall of 1982.

Brandon College established a Canadian Officer Training Corps (COTC) program in 1916 and had enough students for a platoon that would join the 196th Western Universities Battalion's B Company. COTC logs for in the SJ McKee Archives show that at least 40 men regularly attended classes on campus during the 1916 winter term.
The Brandon Daily Sun published the names of 60 potential platoon recruits before they headed to Camp Hughes to train in the summer of 1916. Although Lt. J.R.C. Evans spearheaded the training of the COTC enlistees at Brandon College, he was found medically unfit for overseas service. In his stead, the son of the college's founder, Lt. William Carey McKee, lead the platoon to Camp Hughes where they joined the 196th Battalion. Of the 60 recruits identified in the local paper, 20 would not survive the war, including Lt. McKee. Photograph shows a group of 40 men wearing WWI uniforms. The men have the Canada general service cap badge on their headdress. The officer in the centre of the group (i.e., the man with the cane) is J.R.C. Evans. The group of men are likely members of the first Brandon College Platoon, which joined the 196th Western Universities Battalion.
[According to Mr. Stuckey] it snowed continuously from Oct. 7 to 10th, giving [Brandon] the heaviest snowfall ever recorded in October - must have been about 40".

The 1896 Winnipeg Bonspiel, and Lieutenant-Govenor’s Trophy, was won by the Inglis rink of the Brandon Curling Club. The winning members were (left to right) G.H. Smith (first), Wm. Henderson (third), Jno. Inglis (skip) and W.L. Parrish (second ).
