Photograph shows a group of 24 males alongside a wood-framed building. The individuals are likely employees of McDiarmid Lumber. The ages of employees range from children to middle-age.The men appear to be wearing their "Sunday-best." Some men have smoking pipes, another man is holding a dog.

As of this date, most homes in the city have been heated with natural gas for 20 years. However there is still a good market for stoker coal in rural areas, and Cumming & Dobbie seem to be the last agents for it.

This view, from the northwest, includes a Norfolk & Western hopper car of smith (forge) coal from Pennsylvania.

This coal dock was purchased from W.E. Strange & Son in 1958. It was moved from the east side of the 300 block of 10th Street to this location on the west side of the 600 block of 8th Street.

Date range based on employment dates of Edward Chalmers. Ed Chalmers was the brother of Catherine Harden (nee Chalmers), mother to Edith Harden, who in turn, is the wife of George Lepard.

Muir started as a clerk for Coombs & Stewart in 1882, went into business for himself 1888 and was still operating in 1938. He closed his 6th Street store in June of 1945 (Brandon Sun).
Muir was a good friend of my pioneer grandfather, Sam Gilmour, who lived a block up the street, and as a small boy I spent many nickels in this store (LAS).
