Building was built as the Reno Hotel in 1910, the city's best; was soon overshadowed by Canadian Northern Railway's Prince Edward Hotel in 1912; Became Belvidere Apts. 1918
This is the only building, apart from houses, completely faced with "Samson's" brick from Brandon Sand & Brick Co. (plant at 30th St. & Princess Ave - presently playground of Valleyview School) to survive into the 1980's. Ornamentation around door and windows is the only surviving example of their red dyed brick, known.

View is southwest from the roof of the George T. Richardson Centre. Photograph shows the curved glass wall of the John E. Robbins Library, the walkway between the Library and the Dining Hall, the Dining Hall and Darrach Hall.
Photograph shows Princess Avenue facing east from 10th Street. On the north side of Princess Avenue, a B/A Service Station, Princess Cafe, Lindenberg Seeds, and the Central Fire Station are visible. Old City Hall with the war memorial and the Prince Edward Hotel are visible on the south side of Princess Avenue. Traffic is travelling one-way on Princess Avenue.
Photograph shows the Red Indian (Gasoline) Station on the north side Princess Avenue between 9th and 10th Streets, Brandon. Attached to the west side of the gas station is another shop which contains Hutchings' Drug Store. The Alexandra Block on 10th Street is visible in the background.
Photograph shows the west side of the 200-block on 10th Street. Visible businesses include: Chamber of Commerce Tourist Information, Dominion Tire & Radio Co., Bonnie's Bonnet Shop, Steve's Grill, Wally's Taxi, and Western Motors Ltd. The painted advertisement for Doig, Rankin and Robertson is visible on the Alexandra Block. Christmas ornaments are displayed from light standards and include Santa Claus and a Christmas elf.
Photograph shows a public reception for the Governor General of Canada, HRH the Duke of Connaught during a visit to Brandon, MB. The reception was held on Princess Avenue at City Hall. The photograph is looking southwest from the north side of Princess Avenue. The building in the background is the recently constructed Prince Edward Hotel.
There is staining from the top left corner towards the centre of the image.

Jack Stothard purchased the image at a yard sale, location unknown. He donated it to the Archives in 2006.

The reception was held in fromt of the Brandon City Hall, which was located at 9th Street and Princess Avenue. The photograph is looking south southeast. A portion of the recently constructed Prince Edward Hotel is visible in the background.
Photograph shows a backhoe and a dump truck on the north side of McMaster Hall during the landscaping of the flower bed on the southeast corner of the George T. Richardson Centre (John E. Robbins Library). The Dining Hall is in the background.

Photograph shows Robert (Bob) Ford dressed as the Pied Piper playing a soprano saxophone surrounded by children in costume, some carrying Brandon University Alumni pennants. Photo was taken during the Brandon University Homecoming Parade held in downtown Brandon.
View is northwest from the roof of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. Photograph shows the roof of the Knowles Douglas Students' Union Centre, the Citizens' Science Building, and the Brandon College Building and Clark Hall during renovation.
