1000 block of Rosser Ave., north side. Showing (left to right): Public Library (ex. Merchants Bank of Canada) built 1906; [Smith's Tobacco Shop,]; A.C. Fraser Block built 1890; Scotia Towers built 1970's.
The building pictured was built in 1906-1907. Prior to its use as the Public Library, the building housed the Merchants Bank of Canada. The Library left this location in 1984 when it moved to the former Co-op store on 7th Street & Princess Avenue. This building subsequently became the Brandon Chamber of Commerce building in September of 1985. According to Stuckey, the façade of the building is to remain as heritage building, with interior renovations undertaken with government financing.

The original Merchants Bank of Canada building (built 1890) was, at one time, used by St. John's Ambulance.
The second Merchants Bank of Canada building (built 1906) was used as the Brandon branch of the Western Manitoba Regional Library, and now is home to the Brandon Chamber of Commerce (P.E. 23/06/09).

The Clark Smith Studio, to the right of the Strand sign, had been in the same approximate location since 1907, and eventually moved into the new building. The studio was purchased from Clark J. (plant at 30th St. & Princess Ave - presently playground of Valleyview School) to survive into the 1980's. Ornamentation around door and windows is the only surviving example of their red dyed brick, known.
