Christie Building Fire
Notes
Located on the south side of the 800 block Rosser Ave.
Building was empty at the time and prepared for demolition for the new Gallery Mall. The fire was believed to be started by vandals, probably accidentally.
This photo also shows the Brandon Fire Department's (then) newest fire engine (see also file F21).
Built in 1908 (Barker p. 119); All but the northeast corner of the building was destroyed by fire on October 29, 1920, with the loss of many R.C.M.P. horses.

[Mr. Stuckey put two negatives in the same envelope and taped the prints to the outside. We have separated them and numbered the negatives DA9(1) and DA9(2), and the prints DA9(1a) and DA9(2a).]
Photograph is looking north northwest from 9th Street and shows the McKenzie Building underconstruction. Many of the workers have posed on the third and fourth floors for the photograph.

[Mr. Stuckey wrote on envelope "3 negs." but there is only one in the envelope.]
The Hughes block was built in 1916. It is located on the east side of the 100 block of 10th Street. The Strand Theatre opened November 27, 1916, and showed the city's first "talking" picture December 14, 1929. The Clark Smith Studio, to the right of the Strand sign, had been in the same approximate location since 1907, and eventually moved into the new building. The studio was purchased from Clark J. Smith by L.A. Stuckey on January 1, 1958.
