Paul Panton, a native of Melita, and now a resident of Boissevain, began art lessons with Miss Helen Douglas in New Westminster, B.C.. He continued study with Joe Plaskett at the Vancouver School of Art. During 1962 to 1964 he studied with Steve Repa at the Brandon Allied Arts Centre. Jan Brancewicz, a native of Cracow, Poland, studied art and art education at Teacher's College in Cracow. He immigrated to Canada in 1965. Since his arrival in Brandon, [MB] he has taught in the public school system. For the past eighteen years, he has also been a sessional lecturer of visual design at Brandon University. Brancewicz has exhibited his works extensively in Manitoba and Cracow, Poland. Jan Brancewicz's works reflect the influence of the Constructivist tradition which emerged in Europe during the early 20th century. Like his art predecessors, he construct's images using the formal elements of line, shape, color and spatial relationships, rather than image, are of critical and primary importance to Brancewicz. Painting needs backing board to prevent damages to its surface. Light and fine pencil marks in top horizontal register. Paint transfer in TL corner.

Princess Anne visited Brandon for seven hours on July 15, 1982. Her visit was covered in the July 16, 1982 issue of The Brandon Sun.
Scope and Content
Item is a photograph of Princess Anne's welcome at City Hall. The event was attended by a crowd of 1500 and most of Brandon's dignitaries. The Princes is standing on a small platform on the west side of 9th Street facing spectators and the honor guard from CFB Shilo. A Canadian flag is in the foreground and Mayor Ken Burgess is standing to her right. A number of individuals are standing on the steps behind her.

Notes
The second floor of the Imperial Oil building became the Imperial Dance Garden in 1934. The small wooden post in a concrete foundation in the centre of the intersection was called a "Silent Policeman". You were supposed to keep it on your left while making a left turn. They took quite a beating.
