The International Peace Garden is situated on the international border between Manitoba and North Dakota, adjacent to the Canadian Border Services Boissevain port of entry and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency's Dunseith port of entry. The dedication for the International Peace Garden was held on July 14, 1932. It was estimated that 50,000 people were in attendance on opening day. The park is 9.5-square kilometers or 3.54-square miles.

Photograph was taken on the front lawn and shows nine female students who were either members of the Class of 1930 or the Class of 1931. L to R: Isabel (Hitchings) Garland, Louis (Garnet) Young, Mary (Maltman) Haramia, Ruth (Bigham) Alexander, Thelma (Stoodley) Pallister, Jean (Hutchings) Chase, Van (Hitchings?) Cummings, Kay (Underwood) Pickard, and Marie (Evans) McDonnell.
Photograph is looking west and shows the new Students' Residence Complex, consisting of Darrach Hall, Flora Cowan Hall, and the Main Dining Room, funded by the Central Mortgage & Housing Corporation. The grassy area in the photograph is now occupied by the John R. Brodie Science Centre and McMaster Hall.
Photograph was donated by C. Allan Elsey in September 2003. The photograph belonged to the donor's father Charles Spurgen Elsey.
