LS notes: Built 1905. This sign has weathered exceptionally well considering the Campbell & Campbell partnership ended in 1920. Company became Campbell & Ferguson with Campbell furniture and Ferguson undertaker.
Located at 29 10th Street, Campbell & Campbell remained in business until approximately 1925. In 1927 the business was known as Campbell Fergusson and Wright furniture. Campbell & Fergusson Ltd. continued operations in the building until around 1933. The Henderson's Directory lists the address as vacant in 1935 and 1937. Late in 1939 alterations were begun to turn the building into a barracks for the 71st Battery. In the summer of 1943, in cooperation with city council, the building was converted into a united services centre for the benefit of the personnel of His Majesty's Forces. Brandon's United Service Centre, which catered to more than a half million men and women in the armed services in 21 months officially closed its doors on November 30, 1945; the building had been sold to George Bass in October.

Brent Campbell holds the degrees of Bachelor of Music Education from SUNY Potsdam, ‘81 and Master of Music Education from Brandon University, ‘89. He has taught courses at St. Lawrence University, Brandon University, and at both the junior and senior high levels in Manitoba.
He is a past board member of the International Music Camp, spent six years on the executive board of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), is past director of the University of Manitoba Summer Jazz Camp and past president of IAJE Canada. He spent 13 years on the trombone faculty of the Mile High Jazz Camp in Boulder, Colorado, and worked for Jazz At Lincoln Center as the Canadian consultant for the Essentially Ellington program.
Campbell currently serves as the Director of the Brandon Jazz Festival, as Executive Director of IAJE Canada, as the Administrative Officer of the Brandon Chamber Players and is the Canadian Jazz Representative for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in London, England.
Campbell presently teaches concert and jazz bands at Vincent Massey High School in Brandon, Manitoba, where he lives with his wife Caroline and their three children.

Samuel Glenn Campbell was born on October 7, 1936 in Carberry, MB. Aside from five years in in the Pleasant Point district in the RM of North Cypress (1938-1943), Glenn farmed east of Carberry his entire life on NW 33-10-14. Glenn married Marjorie McLachlan on May 2, 1959 and together they had three children: Robert, Brett and Bonnie Lee. Glenn Campbell died in spring 2007 in Carberry, MB. He is buried at Carberry Plains Cemetery.

As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Robert James (RJ) Campbell was born on January 16, 1905 on Section 14-11-23 in the RM of Woodworth. He attended Education Point School. RJ worked in the Rivers area on a number of farms, then in 1925 went to Regina and worked in a garage. He returned to Manitoba shortly thereafter to work on his uncle's farm and then on the home farm with his mother until 1935. RJ married Edith Marian Bell (1913-2010) on December 23, 1937, and together they had two sons: Cordell and Urschel.
The family lived on the farm in the Brierwood district south of Harding until 1946, when they moved to Halls Bridge district north of Griswold where they continued to farm until 2006. RJ built all of the buildings on the farm including "Halls Bridge Dance Garden" in 1966. He loved to sing square dance calls, and along with Marian, travelled a great deal in North America and Europe, as well as a trip to the Soviet Union. Due to ill health, RJ moved to Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home in 2006. Robert Campbell died on February 14, 2007 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Griswold Cemetery.

Wilfred Dixon Campbell was born on November 30, 1889 in the Brierwood District of Woodworth Municipality. Bill was a farmer for most of his life, and also enjoyed carpentry. Bill married Laura Elizabeth (Bess) English (1896-1972) in 1915, and together they had nine children: Mary, Wilfrid, Robert (Mike), Jack, Barbara, Laura, Frances, Velma and Dorothy. Bill and Bess left their farm in the Verity District in 1949, moving into Kenton, MB, where Bill worked for the municipality. While living in Kenton, Bill enjoyed activites with the Leisure Club and music of all kinds. In 1982, he moved to Birch Lodge in Hamiota. Wilfred Campbell died on September 5, 1984. He is buried at Shiloh Cemetery in Kenton, MB.

History / Biographical
Churches of the Prairies was a project undertaken by Doug Brolund and his brother. The project involved gathering information on the churches of the prairies (Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta). They were interested in the time between 1800 to 1925. Their aim was to collect historical, architectural and photographic material, as well as information concerning the people involved in the building, the ministry and in the using of the churches. The information was to be collected, put into order and made available and retrievable to anyone wishing to use it.
The purpose of the bank of information was to be the publication of a book or books. The Brolunds' believed in the importance of preserving our heritage, of honouring those who were involved in the building of the churches and believed the material would prove to be invaluable in the future to other organizations. To gather information, they sent out letters asking for any information, photographs, news clippings and stories on the churches of the prairies. The project ended when Doug Brolund was left on his own to complete the work. He concluded that it was simply too much for one person to accomplish.
Custodial History
In the early 1980s Doug Brolund donated the text and photographs that had been assembled to the McKee Archives. He was convinced that the material was too valuable to simply discard.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of information (such as news clippings, church histories, correspondence and for Saskatchewan and Manitoba, inventory site forms) on and/or photographs of various churches across Canada. The files for Alberta; British Columbia; Ontario, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec are quite small and generally contain pages from old calendars and newsclippings, although there are a few photographs (some of them unidentified) and church histories. The Alberta file also contains a copy of the Provincial Register of Historic Sites ca. 1979.
The file for Saskatchewan contains information on and/or photographs of churches in the following towns/areas: Kennell, Castleton, McAulay, McLean, Neudorf, Eatonia, Eston, Carnduff, Wheatland and Carievale. There are also photographs of Welwyn Church, Trinity United, Florence School, Coshen? School and Wamphray Presbyterian (RM of Edenwold). The file also contains the finding aid for Saskatchewan developed by the project members.
The material on Manitoba churches is the most extensive. There is a copy of the finding aid for Manitoba developed by the project members. The files are arranged alphabetically, with separate files for Brandon, Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg.
