Mr. Stuckey originally placed 32 negatives in one envelope labeled “M – Presidents of Fair Boards 1882 – 1972”; We have separated and renumbered these negatives as M30(1) to M30(32) inclusively; Records of the Provincial Exhibition Association are held in the S.J. McKee Archives (RG2) including photos of board members; [This negative was produced using a previously published image. P.E. 10/07/09].
Charles Wayland Lightbody was born in Kansas in 1904. He spent part of his childhood in Brandon, MB where his father worked in the agricultural sector. He obtained his B.A. from the University of Saskatchewan in 1924 and spent 1924-1925 at the Univeristy of Tornoto working on an M.A. degree. In 1925, heentered Worcester College, Oxford as the Rhodes Scholar for Saskatchwan and recived an honors B.A. from that institution in 1928. During 1929-1930, he studied at Harvard University.
From 1930 to 1942, Lightbody was an instructor and assistant professor of history at St.Lawrence University. During that period he also recieved his M.A. from Oxford (1936) and completed his Ph.D. at Cornell University. In 1942 and 1943, Lightbody was engaged in research for the U.S. Army; in 1944 and 1945 he resumed public lecturing, broadcasting and writing. Following the war he spent three years at his home in Chappaqua, New York concentrating on historical research.
Lightbody joined the faculty of the University of Saskatchwan in 1948, leaving in 1962. He spent a year that the Univeristy of Regina before coming to Brandon College in 1963, where he was made head of the History Department in 1964. He was on sick leave for most of his last year at Brandon University.
Charles Wayland Lightbody died in Brandon, MB on January 8, 1970.

Scope and Content
Fonds contains newspaper clippings dealing with Brandon College events and the death of Marion Doig, and a variety of pamphlets, including ones for piano/musical recitals held by Brandon College or independent performers, Brandon College’s Annual Graduating Banquet (1959), Brandon College Library and Arts Building Cornerstone Laying Ceremony (1960), The Crucifixion and the D-6(?) Day Observance. Fonds also includes statistics regarding Brandon College Enrollment by departments 1899-1934, miscellaneous writings by J.R.C. Evans, a list of contributors to the J.R.C. Evans Student Loan Fund, the media kit for the 10th Eckhardt-Gramatté Music Competition, a copy of Gently Smiling Jaws by Alma Perry, a photo of Wilma Taylor, a felt book cover and a Brandon College pennant.

Description available on CAIN. Copies of the Brandon Daily Sun: Tuesday February 2, 1960 and the Brandon Sun: Monday September 10, 1962, Saturday October 12, 1963 were culled as duplicates. The Brandon College pennant has been placed in the map drawers in the McKee Reading Room.

The piano in the photograph is most likely a Steinway piano donated to Brandon College by Abbie Vining, former faculty member of the Department of Music. It is unknown when the piano was removed from the Evans Theatre or what happened to it thereafter.
