Susan Kent (nee Harvey) was born in 1853 in Strathroy, ON and on March 10, 1881, she married Arthur William Kent (1858-1926). The newlyweds quickly set out for Rapid City, MB, where they lived for a year, before moving to the Kenton district to homestead in 1882. Arthur Kent was considered the founder of the village of Kenton (1901). The couple had no children, but they did adopt a nephew, Arthur Alexander Wallace. Susan Kent died in 1934 and is buried at Greenwood Cemetery.
Custodial History
As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Item is an audiocassette tape containing a reading of Mrs. A.W. Kent's diary by Shirley S. Hunt. The entry was written in 1926, and documents Mrs. Kent's early life in Manitoba, 1881-1926.

Item is a mini-chapbook entitled "Spare Words" by Susan Ioannou. It is series 2, number 3 in the Dollarpoems series. The series was publiched by Pierian Press, Brandon University with the aid of a grant from The Manitoba Arts Council.
Donkersloot began working at Brandon University in 1970/1971 as the Clerk of Works. From 1973 until his retirement, he was the Director of Physical Plant.
The 1960s campus expansion necessitated a large, updated heat source so a central steam plant fueled by coal was built north of the campus adjacent to the CPR rail lines on Pacific Avenue. A 25-year agreement was made between the University and John R. Brodie of the Great West Coal Company, which guaranteed BU lower coal prices tendered by the Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways on an annual basis. Brandon College Engineer John Kasiurak officially opened the Heating Plant on 24 January 1962. An extension and/or upgrade of the steam plant appears to have occurred in 1970.
Until the 1990s, heat was piped underground to the campus from the Pacific Avenue Heating Plant but inspection standards were outpacing the maintenance and repairs required to keep the plant operating smoothly. Consequently, a new steam plant was built immediately adjacent to the University to the west of Darrach Hall on 20th Street. This building was essential to handling additional loads from the proposed library expansion. The original steam plant was subsequently sold.

Physical Plant provides security, workplace health and safety, building maintenance, utilities, cleaning, groundskeeping, and key storage services, as well as capital project management for the Brandon University campus. It includes the new Physical Plant building and new steam plant on 20th Street and the Site Services building on the corner of 20th Street and Louise Avenue. Prior to the opening of the new Physical Plant building in 2010, services were operated out of World War II era H-Huts in the centre of campus. The original steam plant (1962-1990s) was sold following the construction of the new steam plant.
