H. Vincent Kidd was born in 1905 at Stoughton, Saskatchewan. He obtained his first class teaching certificate and taught for four and a half years before taking his B.Sc. and M.Sc. at the University of Manitoba. Kidd recieved his Ph.D. at the University of London.
While in England, Kidd held a scholarship from the depatment of Industrial and Scientific Research of the British Government and lectured at the Unviersity of London. He also spent four years with Great Britain's Imperial Chemical Industries Limited and was in charge of T.C.T. at Birmingham, England. During the Second World War, Kidd was in the head office of Canadian Industries Limited doing research and development work for the Canadian Government in connection with the war effort.
Kidd taught in the Chemistry Department at Brandon College from 1946-1963. Vincent Kidd died in Brandon, MB in 1963.

Fonds contains newspaper clippings dealing with Brandon College events and the death of Marion Doig, and a variety of pamphlets, including ones for piano/musical recitals held by Brandon College or independent performers, Brandon College’s Annual Graduating Banquet (1959), Brandon College Library and Arts Building Cornerstone Laying Ceremony (1960), The Crucifixion and the D-6(?) Day Observance. Fonds also includes statistics regarding Brandon College Enrollment by departments 1899-1934, miscellaneous writings by J.R.C. Evans, a list of contributors to the J.R.C. Evans Student Loan Fund, the media kit for the 10th Eckhardt-Gramatté Music Competition, a copy of Gently Smiling Jaws by Alma Perry, a photo of Wilma Taylor, a felt book cover and a Brandon College pennant.

Description available on CAIN. Copies of the Brandon Daily Sun: Tuesday February 2, 1960 and the Brandon Sun: Monday September 10, 1962, Saturday October 12, 1963 were culled as duplicates. The Brandon College pennant has been placed in the map drawers in the McKee Reading Room.

1.10 J.R.C. Evans
Leonard Salisbury Evans was born on August 19, 1929 in Winnipeg, MB and was educated at the University of Winnipeg, the University of Manitoba, Simon Fraser University and the University of Ottawa. He was employed as an economist and a professor of economics before entering political life. Evans first ran for public office in the Canadian federal election of 1953 as a candidate for the Cooperative Commonwealth Federation in the constituency of St Boniface. Evans was elected to the Manitoba legislature as a New Democrat in the provincial election of 1969 in the constituency of Brandon East. He was appointed Minister of Mines and Natural Resources in the Edward Schreyer government. Later he assumed the position of Minister of Industry and Commerce. He occupied this position until the defeat of the Schreyer government in 1977. Evans was re-elected in the provincial elections of 1973 and 1977. Following the return to government of the New Democratic Party in 1981-1988, Evans held various senior cabinet posts. Evans served as opposition finance critic from 1988 to 1999. Evans retired from active politics with the 1999 provincial election.
Custodial History
These records were created during the 1990s and held in the Brandon East constuency office until they were brought to the S.J. McKee Archives by Drew Caldwell in November 2003. Drew Caldwell succeeded Len Evans as the MLA for Brandon East in the 1999 provincial election.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of correspondence between Evans and various constituents on a wide range of topics - personal and otherwise - and subject files on social, economic and political matters relevant to Brandon East.

Constituency correspondence closed for thirty years from the date of its creation.
The Student Services H-Hut was located between the Brandon College Building and the Citzens' Science Building. It was placed there c. 1950 and it was removed sometime in the 1990s. Originally the H-Hut in this photograph was the Geology Depatment, housing offices, classrooms and the lab.
