Roy Gordon Coates was born on July 23, 1920 in Brandon, MB. He attended King George, Earl Haig and Central schools in the city. Following school, he began a career with the Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1939. Due to illness he was forced to retire in 1979. Roy married Thelma Cunningham (1922-1949) in 1942. In 1952, he married Norma Jean Orser (1932-?) in Souris, MB and together they had a daughter, Brenda Colleen. Roy was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Clerks, Local 1113, the Orange Lodge, Sons of Ulster No. 1512, St. Paul's United Church, and later First Presbyterian Church where he served as superindent of Sunday school. He enjoyed gof, fishing and music. In retirment he became active with the Hillcrest Adult Day Club. Roy Coates died on July 12, 1985 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Item is a mini-chapbook entitled "Thanksgiving: a persona poem" by Don Bailey. It is series 4, number 1 in the Dollarpoems series. The series was published by DOLLARPOEMS with the aid of a grant from The Manitoba Arts Council.
Ray Bailey was born in Brandon Manitoba in 1922. A Bachelor of Science degree from Brandon College in 1944 completed his education there. Following a short stint as a Chemist he entered the University of Manitoba. There, in 1946, he earned a Diploma in Education. Subsequent study brought a Master of Education degree in 1966. In 1973, he was awareded a Canada Council grant for additional studies.
He began his teaching career at Killarney, MB in March 1946, teaching science. Later he held teaching and adminitrative positions in Melita, Morris and Seven Oaks School Divisions. He retired as Principal of Arthur E. Wright Elementary School in 1986. Bailey was active in the Manitoba Teachers Society and the Manitoba Library Trustees Association. In 1973, the city of Winnipeg gave him a community service award. In 2005, he was a recipient of the Brandon University Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award.
He married Joan Pettipher in 1949. They had four children, Ronald, Ann, Mary and Robert. Joan Bailey died in 1988. Raymond Bailey lived in Winnipeg with his wife Barbara until his death on July 23, 2015.
Custodial History
Book was acquired at a book launch sponsored by Pennywise Books, Brandon, Manitoba in January 2006. The Brandon College documents were probably collected by Bailey during his time as a student in the early 1940s. He donated them to the McKee Archives in November 1994. The yearbooks were delivered to the Archives by Gerald Brown for Bailey in April 2008.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of an autographed copy of Bailey's book "tadpole to Little Frong (in a big pond)." It also includes three Brandon Collegiate Institute yearbooks the New Era for 1938-40, one file of Brandon College records, including eligibility lists for the Students' Association, a Physics IV test, a letter to Bailey excusing him from non-combat duty due to his work as an assistant in the Chemistry Department, a dance program for the Valentine Formal (1943), a freshman reception list and a program/invitation to a musical evening at the home of Martin Johns, Professor in the Physics Department.

John Taylor McGregor was born on January 6, 1904 in North Brandon, in the RM of Elton. He received his education at Grand Valley School, Brandon Collegiate Institute (BCI) and Brandon College. John began farming in 1926, and continued until 1969. During his farming years he also worked as a steam engineer at Shilo. He retired to Brandon. John was a member of Toastmasters No. 293, the Assiboine Historical Society and a founding member of the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. He also contributed to Daly House Museum and wrote many pioneer stories, some of which were published by the Brandon Sun. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brandon.
John married Clara Louise Barber (1901-1965) in 1936. Following her death, he married Brandon school teacher Isabelle Johnston (1907-1989). There were no children for either couple. John McGregor died on December 21, 1988 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Kathleen Maida Winters (nee Gosling) was born on March 6, 1899 in the Maida Barracks, Aldershot in South East England. Her faather George Henry Gosling was a Color Sargeant in the Royal Sussex Regiment. Her father died in the Boer War and she was raised in Dublin, Ireland. Kathleen came to Canada in August 1921 and took Normal School in Moosomin, SK. Kathleen married Abraham Albert "Abie" Winters (1903-1978) in 1929, continuing to teach in country schools. The couple did not have children. Her husband sold their farm near Fleming, SK in 1951, and the couple moved to Fleming, although they kept a quarter section of land until 1974. Abie suffered a stroke and the couple moved to Elkhorn in 1976. Kathleen Winters died on August 9, 1990 in Elkhorn, MB. She is buried at Fleming Cemetery in Saskatchewan.

Kendric Hambly Williams was born on November 16, 1900 on Section 14-3-27 W in the RM of Arthur. The family moved to Melita in 1906. Kendric attended Peninsula School and then school in Melita before the family returned to their farm in 1915. Kendric began farming full-time with his father John in 1917. When his father died in 1931, he continue to operate the farm for his mother, but due to condition in the Depression the Manitoba Farm Loans foreclosed on the property; he conintued to rent the land unti l1937, when we started to repurchase. He moved to Melita in 1954, and rented the farm, before selling the farm to Bill Tilbury and Corny Klassen. During this period he also worked as an inspector under the Prairie Farm Assistance Program. In retirement he volunteered a great deal of his time to the Antler River Historical Museum. He never married. Kendric Williams died on December 25, 1986 in Melita, MB. He is buried at Melita Cemetery.

Lena Gladys Wayte (nee Calverley) was born on May 21, 1921 in Glenboro, MB. She married Thomas Lloyd Wayte (1917-1944) in 1940. Together they had a son, Fred, in 1941, but Tom was killed overseas during the Second World War. Subsequently, she married Tom's brother Norman Wayte (1908-1996) in June 1954. The couple did not have any children together. Lena was a telephone operator with Manitoba Telephone System (MTS) from 1942-1976. After leaving MTS, she worked part time in a greenhouse and flower shop. Lena Wayte died on August 20, 2020 in Glenboro, MB. She is buried at Glenboro Cemetery.

Lesly N Grundy was born in approximately 1891 in Birmingham, England. He came to Manitoba when he was around 12 years old and worked for a farmer. He did not attend school in Canada. During World War I he served with the Ninty-Sixth Battalion Infanty. Following Armistice he spent a year in Germany, then on February 16, 1920, he married Violet Lillian Mountain (1893-1956) in Worcheshire, England. They did not have any children. Upon their return to Canada, Lesly worked for many years as a choreman and gardner at Riding Mountain National Park. The couple retired to Onanole, and at some point following Violet's death, Lesly moved to Sandy Lake nursing home. Lesly Grundy died in 1982. He is buried at Danvers Cemetery.
