Founded in 1977, Super Thrifty is considered Manitoba's largest independent retail drug store organization. At the time of its founding, Super Thrifty had five drug stores in operation, three in Brandon, one in Hamiota, and one in Rivers.

Dr. Fleming arrived May 1881 and set up his drugstore “Apothecaries Hall” in a tent. Fleming was the first medical man in Brandon, first to agitate for a hospital, and first chairman of the school board. He died November 1897.

The building that housed Ashdown's Hardware was built in 1902 and was located at the corner of Princess Avenue and 7th Street on the north side of Princess Avenue. Strome and White Company General Store were the first occupants of the building. The building was destroyed by fire on March 27, 1983.
