Laurence Overton "Laurie" East was born in the municipality of Odanah on the west half of 29-13-18, on March 13, 1911. He attended Tremaine and Roseneath schools and worked on the family farm, eventually leaving school to work due to his father's ill health and then taking over the operation in 1936, after his father died. Laurie retired from farming in 1976. Laurie married Bernice McDonald (1916-2006), a teacher, on July 4, 1942. They had no children. Laurie's hobbies were music, dancing and travel; he took part in local entertainment and taught square dancing classes. He was a member of the Hunterville United Church, serving on the board and volunteering as Sunday School Superintendent or teacher. In the 1940s, Laurie was part of local commmittees to secure telephone and postal service. From 1970-1983, he was a member of Elton Municipal Council. Shortly after joining the council, Laurie was appointed as a representive to the library board; he joined representatives from Minnedosa and Minto councils, as there was support in the region for the organization and establishment of a regional library. Laurie East died on April 18, 2003 in Brandon, MB and is buried at the Rapid City Cemetery.

As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Berncie Caroline East (nee McDonald) was born on August 30, 1914 at Brookdale, MB in the RM of North Cypress. She attended Brookdale school, Brandon Collegiate Institute (BCI) and the Winnipeg Normal School. Her BA was achieved by corresondence and night classes from the University of Manitoba in 1963. As a teacher, Bernice taught at Tremaine, Brookdale, Minnedosa and Elton. Bernice married Laurence Overton East (1911-2003) on July 4, 1942. They did not have any children. The couple farmed in the Hunterville district until Laurie retired in 1976. They moved to Brandon in 1992. Bernice loved the oudoors and gardening, as well as square dancing and music. For a number of years, Bernice and Laurie kept a Bluebird line. The couple also enjoyed travel. Bernice was also active and supportive in community affairs, spending time as a Director on the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame Board. Bernice East died on April 13, 2006 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Rapid City Cemetery.

Phyllis Field Cooper was born on July 22, 1894 in Chicago, Illinois. She attended the Chicago Art Institute. Phyllis emigrated to Canada in March 1918, where she worked briefly for Mr. and Mrs. Archie Cooper near Treesbank, MB, before she moved to Winnipeg to teach a juvenile art class connected with the Winnipeg School of Art. In fall 1920, Phyllis went to work in the office of a Winnipeg insurance company. That same year her parents and brother moved to the Treesbank area. Phyllis moved home to work at the Treesbank store, before the entire family moved back to Chicago in 1923.
Phyllis married Archibald Cooper (1868-1953) on August 26, 1933, and the couple moved to Winnipeg. They did not have children. During their time in Winnipeg, Phyllis worked as an interior designer, a vocalist and a writer, writing articles for the Winnipeg Free Press and the Winnipeg Tribune. She was a member of the Philharmonic choir in Winnipeg and an Honorary Life Member of the Winnipeg Sketch Club. She moved to Glenboro in 1955, following the death of her husband. In Glenboro she gave piano and art lessons for several years. Phyllis Field Cooper died in August 1987. She is buried at Millford Cemetery in Treesbank, MB.

James Buckley was born in Arnprior, Ontario in 1877. He moved to Manitoba in 1904. In 1906, he settled in Brandon, Manitoba where he was employed as a Canadian Pacific Railway conductor for thirty-six years. In the same year he arrived in Brandon, Buckley married Helenea Stavenaw. Togerher they had two daughters Ruth and Margaret. James Buckley was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Conductors and the Knights of Columbus. He passed away in Brandon, Manitoba on December 8, 1957.
Custodial History
Fonds passed into the hands of Buckley's daughter Margaret following the death of Helenea (Stavenaw) Buckley in 1959. Following Margaret's death the fonds was retained by Lesley Liversidge who donated the fonds to the Daly House Museum in 2004. The Museum then donated the fonds to the McKee Archives.

In 2005 the Brandon University Field School was held at both the Crepeele and Graham sites in the Crepeele locale.
At the Crepeele site nine units were excavated (XU10-16 & 20, 21). Units 20 & 21 were referred to as Meadow in the notes but are considered part of the larger site based on recoveries.
Denise Ens instructed the school and James Graham was teaching assistant. Field journals were kept by both instructors.

The Graham site is located south of the Crepeele site. Due to the close proximity the Graham and Crepeele sites have both been the site of the Brandon University Archaeological Field School.
In 2005 both sites were excavated as part of the Field School experience instructed by Denise Ens with teaching assistant James Graham. Six units (XU 1-6) were excavated at the Graham site.

The Sarah site was chosen for excavation based on the results of the Casselman survey. The survey recovered significant amounts of faunal remains, some ceramics and lithics from the test pits. Excavations took place in 2003 at Crepeele West (Units 1-5) and Crepeele East (Units 6-9). The site was subsequently renamed the Sarah site DiMe-28.

The Crepeele site was excavated in 2003 as Crepeele 3. Standard archaeological methods were used to excavate the units. Excavation units were initially numbered as units 10, 11, 12 & 13. These numbers have been changed on the catalogue to XU 110 – 113, due to duplication in 2005. Corresponding documents have been changed to reflect the amended excavation unit numbers, however the field journals may contain the initial numbers.
