History / Biographical
Reverend John Crawford, faculty member at Woodstock College (Baptist institution), Woodstock, Ontario took the initiative in 1879, to come west to Rapid City, Manitoba to establish a Baptist seminary to train Baptist ministers for service in Western Canada. He established Prairie College for this purpose. Students at the College would homestead in the area, farming in the summer and studying in the winter. Prairie College only lasted a few years and consumed most of Crawford's limited private wealth. Prairie College closed in 1881.

This document is a copy found in the Neepawa Land Titles Office. It was donated to the McKee Archives when the Office was culling historical records.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of the Dominion Lands grant to the Reverend John Crawford situated in the Province of Manitoba, Township 13, Range 19, Section south 1/2 of 32, dated December 16, 1882.
Crawford Rose was born on August 6, 1898 in the Rural Municipality of Odanah. A family physician, Crawford had medical practices at Radisson, SK, Coleman, AB and finally Aurora, ON. He retired in 1968. Crawford married Julia Anna Pommer (1902-1977) on September 4, 1926. Together they had two children: Clayton and Mary Elizabeth. In the 1940s and 1950s, Crawford served as Councillor and Mayor of Aurora. There is a Crawford Rose Drive in the city of Aurora. Crawford Rose died in 1990 in Aurora, ON. He is buried at Aurora Cemetery.
Custodial History
As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Bertha Cunningham is a Western Manitoban artist who has studied at the Banff School of Fine Arts several summers and has painted in Winnipeg for periods under the guidance of members of the School of Fine Art. She paints mainly landscapes. (1969 inventory)
Crazing of varnish all over image, deeper alligator cracking in top middle causing distortions of paint surface (area 6 X 19 cm TL). Some paint abrasion along the frame on L side. Painting needs cleaning from dust. Frame has some minor cracks; as well
