Principal of Normal School 1913-1938; author of Hales' Botany text.
His collection of mounted birds and animals - what was left of it after improper storage in various places, damage and dispersals - found a home as the B.J. Hales Natural History Museum at Brandon College in 1965.

[St. Joseph’s Academy provided education to the children of Brandon’s Catholic community and was overseen by its own Catholic school board. The first building was built in 1890 as a reformatory (on right).
A four-story structure (centre) was built in 1892 and the former reformatory became an administrative section. Together they became the Brandon Asylum for the Insane.
[A third building (on left) began construction in 1903. (P.E.)]
This complete set of buildings was destroyed by fire on November 4, 1910 (see file FA2).
