Photograph shows Rosser Avenue in its incipient stages. Canvas tents are mixed amongst wooden structures. The James Smart Hardware store, Winter & O'Neail Groceries & Provisions, and the law office of F.G.A. Henderson in the Molesworth Block can be seen on the north side of Rosser Avenue. A street sign designating 6th Street can be seen below the Winter & O'Neail sign. A horse and buggie is traveling down the dirt track that is Rosser Avenue. Groups of men can be seen congregating outside some of the local businesses.

Image of the west end of Front Street in Baldur, MB. Business and buildings in the photo include (L-R): Cleghorn's drug store, Fowlers, Tom Johnson's John Deer Shop, barber shop, Royal Bank (Odd Fellows Hall upstairs), Lee's Chinese Cafe, Hunters Hardware, Folwer Block, L. Curtis Block, Sexsmith Block - boarding house and sample room.
Item is a mini-chapbook entitled "Matter of Life and Death" by Norma West Linder. It is series 2, number 6 in the Dollarpoems series. The series was publiched by Pierian Press, Brandon University with the aid of a grant from The Manitoba Arts Council.

Scope and Content
Photo was taken of Rosser Avenue from 7th Street looking west. Visible businesses include: ? and Ball; Vincent & MacPherson; W.N. Finlay; Christie's; J. Burchill; the Empire Hotel; and Fleming's Drug Store. A number of people and vehicles are visible on both sides of the street.

View is west to McDiarmid Drive from approximately 16th Street between Princess and Louise Avenues. Photograph shows: Brandon College, Fleming School, Coronation Park, and West End Community Centre.
Clark J. Smith Studio was located at 135 10th Street. It opened c. 1913 and was sold to Lawrence Stuckey in 1958.
Clark Jaques Smith was born in November 1879 in Consecon, Ontario to John Allen Smith, a photographer, and his wife Eliza. Clark Smith came west in 1908. With his wife Margaret had two or three daughters (Jean Day, Thelma Courice and Marie? Smith?). Smith was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, a past president of the Western Canada Photographers Association and was a life long member of that association. He died in Brandon, Manitoba on January 9, 1968.

Brandon's City Hall and Opera House opened on New Year's Day 1892 with the Annual Fireman's Ball. The exterior of the building was designed by Brandon architect W.R. Marshall. At the south end was the Opera House, an auditorium formed by an internally exposed framework of delicate iron pillars and trusses. Demonlished in 1971, the limestone rubble of the foundations were turned into a sunken garden located in Princess Park.
