History / Biographical
The Brandon Normal School was an arm of the provincial Department of Education. Manitoba Normal schools were initiated in the early 1880s (1882 for protestant teachers and 1883 for Roman Catholic ones) to meet the demand for teachers in the province's schools. Normal schools were held in Brandon at various locations until the construction of the Brandon Normal School in 1912 under the Roblin government. The Brandon Normal School operated until 1946.

Portraits of the students and staff of Brandon Normal School's third class spring term (1921).
Located south of Stanley Park along the 1400 block of Lorne Avenue, Park School was constructed in 1904. Designed by W.A. Elliot and built by the Brandon Construction Company the structure measured 71 x 107 feet and cost approximately $38,000.
The school featured a principal’s office, reception room, staff rooms, an assembly hall for eight hundred, and ten class rooms. The interior walls were lined with mahogany while the floors were made of western pine. The interior of the basement was constructed from Tyndall stone, while Crookston brick trimmed with Bedford stone made up the exterior.
The building was razed in September 1978. Hobbes Manor was built on the location.

Item is a photograph of the City of Brandon's "See you in '82" float advertising Brandon's upcoming Centennial in 1982. The float is a steamboat and features a number of posters.
Alfred Walter Pryce was born in England c. 1880. He emigrated from England in 1903 and was hired by the Canadian Pacific Railway, likely in Manitoba. His wife, Kate Louisa Buchan, was older than her husband. She was born in England c. 1873. They were married in England? and she followed her husband to Canada in 1904. Alma Jane Pryce was born June 24, 1905 and Herbert Walter Pryce was born May 12, 1907 in [Elton] Manitoba. In autumn 1911, the Pryce family returned to England for a Christmas visit. They sailed from Halifax on the Empress of Britain and arrived in Liverpool on December 9, 1911. The family returned to Canada on the Empress of Ireland from Liverpool in early 1912, landing at St. John, New Brunswick.
Alfred Walter Pryce died in Brandon, MB on January 31, 1922. Kate Pryce died in Winnipeg, MB on March 18, 1938.

The beanie measures 17 cm in diameter and is approximately 11 cm tall. It is composed of alternating bands of blue and gold felt. The initials "BC" appear on the front of the beanie.
The beanie measures 20 cm in diameter and is approximately 8 cm tall. It is composed of alternating bands of blue and gold felt and has a blue felt loop at the peak. The initials "BC" appear on the front of the beanie.
The ring is a rectangular gold class ring from 1963, with the Brandon College shield of arms on the top of the ring. The numbers "19" and "63" are engraved on the shoulders of the ring. The ring is in a gray velvet jewellery box from Zeke's Jewellers.
The spade was presented to Mrs. William Davies on the occasion of laying the cornerstone of Brandon College (Original Building), July 13th, 1900. The spade is approximately 16.5 cm long and is missing its handle. It is composed of silver, but appears to have been gold plated at one point as there are patches of gold over top of the silver base.

Kay Smith (nee Oliver) donated this item, along with items 5 and 6 from RG 6, sub-series 16.2 (Artifacts - apparel) to the Archives in May of 2003. She graduated from Brandon College in 1953 and again in 1955.
Scope and Content
The jacket is a blue felt lettermans jacket with yellow buttons, yellow leather side pockets and blue and yellow stripped cuffs. On the upper left side is a variation of the Brandon College shield of arms and a banner reading "Brandon College." Athletic letters for swimming and basketball, received for playing varsity, are located on either side of the buttons at the bottom of the jacket. A band reading "Arts 63" is located on the upper right sleeve.

Scope and Content
Consists of three blue and gold Brandon College crests made from felt. Two are circular in shape, measuring 4.25" and 3.75" across. The third is oval in shape, measuring 4 x 3.5". All three are composed of the letters "B" and "C" in gold and intertwined on a blue background. The two circular crests also have a gold border.
The cairn was constructed in 1999 as part of the University's centennial activities. It was built by Mike Brewer, a local stonemason, using stones taken from the original site of Prairie College, which was located one mile north of Rapid City. The project was inspired by President Dennis Anderson, who wanted to povide a physical symbol on campus of Prairie College, as it was linked through the McKee Academy (located in Rapid City until 1890 and then in Brandon until 1898), Brandon College and Brandon University.

The cairn is located in front of the Original Building east entrance. A time capsul, containing a list of the items enclosed, as well as copies of the 199-2001 Brandon University General Calendar, the 1998-1999 Brandon University Students' Union student handbook, the 1999 Brandon University Spring Convocation program, a Brandon University at a Glance fact sheet, the Spring 1999 edition of Alumni News, the March 17, 1999 edition of the Quill, a 1999 Mini University program, the Prairie College archaeology project abstract, a Prairie College archaeology project poster, the July 2, 1999 edition of the Brandon Sun, the 1999-2000 City of Brandon Tourist Guide, a Brandon city map and a Canadian Federation of Students pamphlet, was sealed inside the cairn on July 2, 1999 as part of the 100th Anniversary celbrations of Brandon University.

Photographs of the cairn dedication ceremony are located in the Brandon University Photograph collection under series 10 (Special Events) in the 100th Anniversary sub-series. Thomasin Playford's "Archaeological investigations at the Prairie College site (EaMA-9): a Baptist College in the Canadian Northwest (final report for grant 98F-W149)" and John Edwin Davis' "The life story of a leper: autobiography of John E. Davis, Canadian Baptist missionary among the Telugus." Both are available in the John E. Robbins Library.
This plate was the property of Edna and Carl Bjarnason. it was in their possession for some fifty years prior to its donation to the University on October, 2005. The Development Office took possession of the plate at that time and transferred it to the archives in March 2008.
