History / Biographical
John Dickson (b. 17 Mar 1854, Scotland; d.15 April 1926, Brandon) was considered one of Brandon’s pioneer dentists. Dickson immigrated to Canada in 1857, where he lived in Hamilton, Ontario, for a number of years. Dickson then came to Manitoba and operated a grocery in Chater before he studied dentistry, graduating from the University of Minnesota in 1886. The couple had four children: Mrs. Irving Cross [Mary Louise, b.20 Dec 1892, Brandon; d. 22 Oct 1981, Saratoga, NY]; Dr. John Harrison Dickson [b. 26 Aug 1894, Brandon; d. 17 June 1956, Killarney]; Dr. Stanley Rodgers Dickson [b. 18 Feb 1896, Brandon; d. 25 July 1963, Brandon]; and Mrs. Emile Baldeschweiler [Isobel Marion Coates, b. 13 Nov 1900, Brandon; d.?] of New York. Photograph is of a girl and a boy standing amongst sweet peas in a backyard garden. A clothes line is visible in the foreground. The children, Mary and Stanley, are possibly those of Brandon dentist John Dickson.

Photograph shows a group of 14 individuals scattered throughout a yard of a two-storey brick home with an extension. An elderly woman can be seen a wheelchair. Four women are wearing white gowns with long sleeves.

Photograph shows a group of five young boys standing shoulder-to-shoulder as they pose for the picture. Don McPherson has been identified as the boy in the middle. The boys appear to be standing in a residential backyard on a summer's day. The children are wearing shorts and some are wearing straw hats.

Scope and Content
Photograph shows a man - George Porterfield - dressed in a three-piece and hat sitting at the reins of a horse drawn buggy. The buggy appears to be parked on Lorne Avenue beside the bandstand at Stanely Park.
Notes
Note attached to the back of the photograph reads: This George Porterfield, who lived on a farm 4.9.19. Delivered eggs, cream & milk in Brandon by this method in the early 1920. Maybe he was out courting Mary, he looks pretty dressed up.
Photograph shows the northwest corner of 10th Street and Princess Avenue. Traffic on the west side of Princess Avenue appears to travelling both ways. A car waits at the intersection.
Above the west entrance on the corner building is an electric sign that spells "Hughes Bldg." A second storey has yet to be added to the portion of the Doig's shop that is adjacent to the Alexandra Block.
Fitwell Tailors, a barber shop, and the Federal Building are visible on Princess Avenue.

Photograph is looking east down Lorne Avenue East from approximately the 13th Avenue East intersection. On the north side of the street are the Hillside Townhouses with the Lady Sylvia apartment block and Simplot Canada Ltd. in the background.

[Mr. Stuckey put 5 and 5 prints negatives in the same envelope. We have separated them and numbered the negatives CA15(1) to CA15(5), and the corresponding prints CA15(1a) to CA15(5a).]
