History / Biographical
Donald N. Wheeler taught Economics at Brandon University between 1970-1980. He received his B.A. from Reed College in 1935 and two years later graduated with a B.A. First Class in the Final Honour School of Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Oxford. From 1937-1938, he pursued studies as a Candidate for Doctorat en Droit in the Faculty of Law at the University of Paris. He received his M.A. and Ph.D. (1975) from Oxford University. Upon his return to the United States in 1933, Wheeler became an Insturctor of Government at Yale University. From 1939 through 1941, he was a research economist for the U.S. Treasury department and the Senate Banking and Currency Committee. With the outbreak of World War Two, Wheeler was assigned to the State Department, where he worked as a section chief in the Research and Analysis Branch of the OSS until 1946. Following the war, Wheeler became a casualty of McCarthyism and spent the majority of the next twenty years farming in Washington State. Wheeler returned to academic life in 1965, as a professor of Economics at Franconia College; he resigned from the position in 1968 and returned to Oxford University as a Candidate for a Doctorate in Philosophy. While at Brandon University, Wheeler was a member of the Senate, and served on committees of BUFA, the Faculty of Arts and the Board of Governors. He taught courses in economic development, ecnoomic history, the history of economic thought and agricultural economics. Wheeler was named Professor Emeritus of Brandon University in 1986. Donald Wheeler died in Seattle on November 8, 2002.
Custodial History
Following the death of Professor Wheeler, his daughter put together a collection of his writings. A copy was given to Errol Black, who then donated it to the Archives on March 31, 2006.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of "The Collected Writings of Donald Niven Wheeler" edited by Honeybee Wheeler Burns, transcribed by Susan E. Wheeler and published by Linda M. Elias. Fonds also includes a draft of Imperialism and Revolution in Afganistan prepared by Wheeler and dated April 1, 1986.

Custodial History
Accessioned in 2007 by the McKee Archives. Prior custodial history unknown.
Scope and Content
Collection consists of the Brandon College Annual Graduating Banquet programs for 1926 and 1927. The 1926 program contains the autographs of the graduating class members. The 1927 program contains a letter to Freeman from Gertrude Godley (Class of 1927). The collection also includes a Souvenir Class of 1926 book made by Freeman. It contains the College yell; a drawing of the Class of 1926 badge; the Class of 1926 colours, motto and yell; the Class song; Brandon College student and faculty autographs (including Annie Wright, Harris MacNeill and J.R.C. Evans); the Class lit programme; and a list of winter parties. The sourvenir book also contains five black and white photographs: one of Clark Hall and the Original Building, and four of what is probably various Class of 1926 members (one is labelled "Roland Christian"). Finally the book contains Donald Freeman's examination marks in Part 2 Matriculation for Arts from the University of Manitoba (1921).

History / Biographical
Donald Jacob Engel was born on January 11, 1943 at Yorkton, SK. He attended elementary school in Rhein, high school in Yorkton and Luther College in Regina. He obtained his BA from the University of Saskatchewan and his Master of Divinity at Lutheran Theological Seminary. Before ordination he served as Lutheran chaplain at Regina Campus of the University of Saskatchewan 1969-1970. Over the next nine years, Don served parishes in Medicine Hat, AB, as well as Kipling and Wapella, SK. In 1979, he became pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon. Don left Brandon in 1986, becoming the Pastor of Christ Lutheran Church in Winnipeg until he retired in 2004. In retirement, Don has held a number of interm pastor positions in Winnipeg. Don married Donna Darnd (1947-?) on July 25, 1969 and together they had three children: David, Michael and Krista.
Custodial History
As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Item is an audiocassette tape containing an interview with Pastor Donald Jacob Engel about the history of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Brandon, MB and Lutheranism in general. The interviewer is Marjorie Lange.
