Richard Harold "Doc" Hannah was born on July 9, 1916 in Wakaw, SK. He obtained his BA in biology at McMaster University before joining the staff at Brandon College in 1948, teaching botany and zoology. In 1962, after completing a MSc degree at the University of Minnesota, he returned to Brandon College and was appointed head of his department. He served as faculty advisor to the Athletic Board for twenty years and for over 30 years, Doc was a coach, manager, trainer and the inspiration behind the Braandon College Cap and Brandon University Bobcat hockey teams. It was his involvement with College athletics that led to the nickname "Doc." When he retired in 1981, he was granted the title of Professor Emeritus. In 1993, Doc was inducted into the Brandon University Dick and Verda McDonald Sports Wall of Fame.
Doc married Reta Bernice (1914-2005) and they had three children: Richard, Sharon and Patrick. Doc was a member of the AF and AM (Tweed Lodge No. 113), the Royal Order of Scotland and Khartum Temple Shrine. He served as Grand Master of Manitoba (1984-1985). Richard Hannah died on September 6, 1990 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Marion Ferguson (nee Patterson) was born April 29, 1911 in Brandon, MB. She took her early education at Brandon before completing nurses training at St Boniface Hospital Winnipeg (1929-1932). Following graduation she worked as a private nurse, then in 1936 did post graduate studies in psychiatry at the Brandon Mental Hospital. In 1936, Marion took a position at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Particularly interested in neurology and stomach research, she took additional training and worked as a nurse at the University of Minnesota.
In 1940, she applied at a recruiting centre and joined the RCAF as a nursing sister in uniform. She was posted in Saskatchewan and New Brunswick, then established a hospital at Yarmouth, Nova Scotia for the Fleet Air Arm before being posted overseas. She worked with Italian Prisoners of War before being moved to the special burn hospital in East Grinstead, England.
After the Second World War, Marion returned to Brandon, where she became part of the teaching unit at Brandon General Hospital and then worked on the children's ward during the polio epidemic. Next, she became the Medical Surgical Supervisor at the Brandon Mental Hospital, then an administrator for the same institution. Marion then taught psyciatry at the Brandon Mental Health Centre (BMHC) for eleven years and helped establish the policy for a two-year training program for registered nurses. She retired in June 1974.
Marion married John Reid "Jock" Ferguson (1907-1986) in 1950. The couple had three children - Mary, Jessica and Robert - while also raising John's four children from his first marriage.
Marion was active in community work, especially with the Royal Canadian Legion. She was the first female president of the local Legion, Branch No. 3 (1971), and worked tirelessly with veterans and their families. For her dedication to the needs of vetrans and their families, Marion was given six different medals from the Royal Canadian Legion. In addition to her work with the Legion, Marion was also the spokesperson for the small community of northeast Brandon and was part of the group that built the Green Acres senior citizens' home. Marion Ferguson died on May 21, 1993 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Sub sub series consists of Marion MacPhail's school and teaching notebooks, as well as other materials she used during her teaching career, such as exercises, lessons, examinations, sources/ideas, class lists, and grades. Notebook subjects include: literature, practical chemistry, history, fiction, literary criticism, music, plays, art, poetical literature, pedagogy, english, psychology, a better B.U.Y.P./the Acts of the Apostles, history of education, grammar, memory gems, geography, health education, agriculture and elementary science. There are also files entitled: Christmas concert and miscellaneous Norwood Public School assignments/tests.

Part of Alexander MacPhail collection. In a number of cases, the workbooks/notebooks contain material on subjects other than the subject listed on the title page/file folder. Some of Marion's notebooks contain class lists with grades/lessons and exercises.

Marion Margaret Hales Doig was the only child of B.J. Hales. She died in Brandon on June 8, 1961.

Scope and Content
Fonds contians issues of two periodocals, "Northern Review" (1949-51), which reviews contemporary Canadian literature, and "The Keystone Province" (1941-45), a primarily economic look at Manitoba.
The condition of the books varies from very good to poor. Physical condition notes have been made on the inventory.
History / Biographical
Florence Marion Stone was born of Swedish parents, Freda and Ernest Peterson, in Saskatchewan in 1921 and adopted by Dr. and Mrs. Stone when her birth parents died early in her life. Marion graduated from high school when she was fifteen and she went on to obtain a B. A. degree from Brandon College in 1940. She served with the Royal Canadian Air Force Women's Division in England during the Second World War.
Following the war, Marion achieved her teacher training certificate and then spent most of her long career teaching English at Sir Winston Churchill Secondary School in Vancouver, BC. Throughout her life, Marion was very active in the Anglican Church. She also associated with the Swedish community, attending the Lucia pageant every year.
Marion Stone passed away at the Vancouver General Hospital on December 1, 2003 at the age of 82.

The books in this collection were donated to the McKee Archives in September 2003 by Marion Stone. Prior to this time, the books had been a part of her private collection in Vancouver.

Mildred Orriss (nee Nixon) was born on February 27, 1899 in Boissevain, MB. From 1918-1923, she was a store clerk, before training as a Registered Nurse. From 1926-1930, she nursed in Winnipeg and California. Mildred married William Cecil Orriss (1898-1979) in October 1930 and together they had one daughter, Mary Jean. Cecil farmed in the district until retiring in 1959, and he and Mildred moved to Boissevain, where Mildred returned to teaching. She retired in 1970. Mildred was active in the United Church, the Boissevain Women's Institute, the Agricultural Society and many other community activities. Mildred Orriss died sometime after May 1981. She is likely buried at Boissevain and Morton Cemetery.

Edna Mary "Molly" Vance (nee Bell) was born on May 18, 1912 in Prince Albert, SK. After high school, Molly attended business college in Price Albert and teacher training in Saskatoon. She then Attended Brandon College from 1933-1935, with a one year absence to teach in Dry Gully, SK. In 1935, Molly moved to Kenton, MB, where she taught until her marriage to Garnet Vance (1912-1952) on December 31, 1938 in Brandon, MB. Molly stopped teaching to raise their sons, Alfred and Raymond, but returned to the classroom following her husband's death in 1952. She taught in Kenton until 1970 and then Hamiota until 1974, before retiring. In her free time Molly enjoyed travelling and art. Molly Vance died on September 18, 2001 in Hamiota, MB. She is buried at Greenwood Cemetery.

Muriel Isobel Outhwaite (nee Thompson) was born on August 1, 1916 in Brandon, MB, the eldest daughter of Norman Wallace Thompson and Evelyn Elizabeth Pentland. She grew up on the family farm at Justice and attended school there. Following graduation from Brandon Normal School, Muriel taught at Bunclody, Scarth, Norman, Glant and Forrest over 26 years. Muriel married Vauden Robert "Jack" Outhwaite (1904-1970) in July 1939, and together they raised four children: John Duane, Dianne, Bonnie and Lynne. Muriel was a lifetime member of the Justice United Church and its organizations, led 4-H, was a member of the Justice Community Club and the Justice Curling Club. She also enjoyed travelling. Muriel Outhwaite died on March 8, 2000 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Sparling Cemetery.
