Photograph was taken from inside the building looking out onto the courtyard. It shows scaffolding around the hole in the wall that would become the rear entrance to the Brandon College Building and Clark Hall.
View is southwest from the north side of Princess Avenue. Photograph shows the north driveway entrance on campus. The original Music Building, the A.E. McKenzie Building, Clark Hall and part of the Brandon College Building are visible.
Photograph is looking east and shows the preparation work for the sidewalk leading up to the steps and portico at the west entrance of the Brandon College Building.
Building was built as the Reno Hotel in 1910, the city's best; was soon overshadowed by Canadian Northern Railway's Prince Edward Hotel in 1912; Became Belvidere Apts. 1918
This is the only building, apart from houses, completely faced with "Samson's" brick from Brandon Sand & Brick Co. (plant at 30th St. & Princess Ave - presently playground of Valleyview School) to survive into the 1980's. Ornamentation around door and windows is the only surviving example of their red dyed brick, known.

Photograph is looking west and shows the east entrance to the Main Dining Room. The link to Flora Cowan Hall and part of both Flora Cowan Hall and Darrach Hall are visible in the background.
Photograph was in possession of Mrs. Ruby Miles, who passed the image on to Fred McGuinness. McGuinness makes reference to Mrs. Miles and this photograph in his Sunbeams column (Brandon Sun 14 September 1978).
Scope and Content
Photograph shows a horse drawn wagon advertising Cowan's Cocoa. The Gilmore Advertising Company of Toronto appears to be responsible for the ad and the wagon is numbered "No.4". Three men appear in the photograph: one behind the reigns, one in the rear seat of the wagon, and other standing at the rear axel.

Writing on the front of the photograph matting reads: Pringle & Booth, 181 George Street, Toronto. Writing on the back of the photograph matting reads: Mrs. R. Miles, R.J. Brdgdon?, Right Side 2.50 a day.

Brandon's City Hall and Opera House opened on New Year's Day 1892 with the Annual Fireman's Ball. The exterior of the building was designed by Brandon architect W.R. Marshall. At the south end was the Opera House, an auditorium formed by an internally exposed framework of delicate iron pillars and trusses. Demonlished in 1971, the limestone rubble of the foundations were turned into a sunken garden located in Princess Park.
