Hans Andersen was born at Moline, Manitoba, on February 28, 1922, the third child of Andrew and Hansine Andersen. Andersen grew up on his family’s farm, attending Moline public school. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946, as part of the 23rd Field Artillery of the 4th Division, serving in England, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. After military service in World War II, Andersen returned home and started a farming career in the Moore Park district, located in the Rural Municipality of Odanah. In 1946, Andersen also married Marthe Renauld (1922-1977). The couple had 3 children: Karen, James and Mary Lou.
For 40 years, Andersen farmed in the Moore Park area, where he was also heavily involved in the local community. He was a trustee for Moore Park consolidated school district and a member of the Elton municipal school board. He was also a member of the Moore Park pool elevator board, and the Royal Canadian Legion. In 1970, Andersen was elected to the position of Reeve of the RM of Odanah. He remained the Reeve of Odanah until 1978.
In 1978, Andersen married Thelma Terry, and moved to Rapid City. In Rapid City, Andersen continued farming, gradually reducing his time in farming until he sold the last of his land to his family in 1990. In Rapid City, Andersen was involved in the building of a brand new seniors centre, and occupied himself in retirement with not only golfing but lots of traveling, going to places like the United States and Europe.
After 2000, Andersen’s health began to deteriorate due to the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Hans Andersen died on January 12, 2008. He is buried at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

Frank William Anderson was born on October 23, 1911 on the family farm at NW 20-11-18 near Forrest, MB. He attended school at Turriff and Brandon before graduating with a degree in agriculture from the University of Manitoba in 1935. He then served ten years as an Ag Rep for the Manitoba Department of Agriculture, first in Teulon, later in Minnedosa. Frank married Elizabeth Helen Barson (1919-2016) on August 7, 1943. Together they had four children: William, Margaret, Bonnie and Shirley. The family moved to the Anderson family farm in 1946, where Frank returned to his first love, farming. He retired from active farming in 1982, but continued to live on the farm until 2000. In 1989, the Anderson farm was recognized as a Century Farm. In 1994, Frank received a Manitoba Heritage Award for restoration of the barn. In 1996, in partnership with Delta Water Fowl, the RM of Elton, Ducks Unlimited and PFRA, a wetland habitat site was created on the farm. This habitat was enhanced by a shelter belt planted by the wood lot program of Habitat Heritage. Frank had a life long commitment to the co-operative movement, serving in various capacities with Federated Co-ops, Manitoba Pool Elevators and United Grain Growers. He was also a 4-H Club Leader, a school trustee, a board member of the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair, and a member of the United Church. He devoted 37 years to the beautification of Humesville Cemetery. In his later years, Frank was an active member of the Elton Leisure Club and a regular at the Brandon YMCA. Frank Anderson died on February 28, 2002 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Humesville Cemetery.

William Andrew "Andy" Graham was born on July 29, 1916 in the RM of North Cypress on section 14-10-15. He married Irene Ruth Caughill (1918-1979) on April 17, 1937, and together they had three children: Gwen, Betty and Joan. Andy and Ruth lived first in Carberry and then on NE 23-10-15W; Andy farmed, first in partnership with his father, and then later on his own when his father's health failed. After Ruth died, Andy married Florence (Reynolds) Elmhirst (1911-2000) in 1981. Andy Graham died in 1993.

Andrew Frederick "Fred" Mutter was born on January 7, 1913 in Brandon, MB. He was educated in Brandon, including at Brandon College. From 1942-1945, Fred served with the RCAF overseas. Fred returned to Brandon after the war, where he joined the family run grocery store, Mutter Brothers. He continued to operate the business until deciding to close in April 1975. In 1986, the contents of the store were donated by the Assiniboine Historical Society to the Daly House Museum. Fred never married. Fred Mutter died on July 3, 1984 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Valere Andries was born on January 28, 1910 in Deloraine, MB. Valere married Alice Agnes Boy (1916-2011) on December 9, 1936 and together they had one daughter, Donna. Valere and Alice farmed for 22 years in the RM of Winchester. Valere was a councillor for Winchester for 11 years, and a member of Deloraine Council for 3.5 years. He also worked as an agent for Manitoba Crop Insurance, as Flax straw buyer for Kimberley Clark and for Olin Flax Company. He and Alice retired to Deloraine. Valere Andries died between 1983-2005. He is buried at St. Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery in Deloraine.

Alice Ann Barter was born on June 27, 1908 in Brandon, MB. She worked at A.E. McKenzie Seeds Co. in various departments doing secretarial work. She never married. Ann Barter died on December 18, 1993 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.
Mary Anne Alice "Daisy" Patmore was born on March 30, 1903 in Brandon, MB. She was the eldest of five children born to Henry Lewis Patrmore and Alice Maud Mary Ball. Patmore purchased a tree nursery in Brandon in 1888, and was a leading exponent of shelterbelts and tree planting, as well as a leading figure in beautifying the city of Brandon. Daisy attended Brandon Collegiate Institute and the Brandon Normal School. She taught for one year and then joined the family business, Patmore Nurserview Ltd. and Patmore's Florists; Daisy owned and operated the floral part of the business and was a floral designer from 1934 until she retired in 1973. During these years, she was very active in the International School of Loral Design; she also spoke and gave demonstrations about floral arrangements for many clubs and associations. Daisy was a member of the Quota Club, the Natual History Society of Brandon and the Brandon Horitcultural Association, as well as a member of St. George's Anglican Church and the Anglican Church Women's Group. For many years she was the alternate organist for the Church and played at services at the Brandon Mental Health Centre and Fairview Personal Care Home. Daisy never married. Daisy Patmore died on August 21, 1999 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.
Muriel May Patmore was born on May 1, 1905 in Brandon, MB. She attended Brandon Collegiate Institute (BCI), and after graduation, traind as a teacher, teaching in various communities in Manitoba, including Rankin, Bloomsbury, Killarney and Elgin schools. Later, Muriel was employed by Brandon Creamery, the Fair Board office and managed the seed department for Patmore Nurseries. Actively invloved in community organizations, Muriel was Vice-President of the Brandon Arts Club, a member of the Horticultural and Natural History Societies, an avid supporter of the Brandon School of Music, and a member of the Westman Philharmonic Choir. She also provided music scholarhips for the Brandon College/Brandon University School of Music. Muriel was a long time member of St. George's Anglican Church, where she sang in the choir. She had a great interest in the history of Brandon and the Assiniboine Valley, environmental issues and world events. She never married. Muriel Patmore died on September 20, 1999 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Annie McLean (nee Hubbard) was born on January 4, 1895 in Dunville, ON. She came to the Virden, MB district with her family in 1896. Annie attended school in Virden and then worked as a telephone operator. In 1913, she married Frederick Middleton McLean (1885-1962) and the couple farmed in the Hargrave district until retiring to Elkhorn in 1957. Together they raised five boys: Lem, Ray, Bud, Dale and Glen. Annie was a member of Hargrave United Church and of Unit S of St. Paul's UCW. Her later years were spent in Virden. Annie McLean died on September 24, 1984 in Virden, MB. She is buried at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

Anthony Simbalist was born on November 25, 1912 in Czahor, West Ukraine. He immigrated to Canada with his family in June 1921, and they settled in Brandon, MB. Anthony attended Brandon schools and graduated from the Brandon Normal School. He taught school in the Glen Elmo district in Manitoba for three years, but felt his real vocation lay in the priesthood. He entered St. Augustine's Seminary in Toronto and was ordained on June 15, 1941 in St. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral in Winnipeg. His first parish was Cudworth, SK (1941-1943), after which he served as Bishops Secretary in Winnipeg for four years. Following that, Fr. Anthony served parishes in Fort William, Prince Albert, Hamilton, where he built a church and school complex, Kenora, Montreal and Thunder Bay. He also served as an Army Chaplain Captain in the reserve forces in Hamilton. On May 15, 1969, he was elevated in rank as Archpriest (Monsignor). Fr. Anthony retired in 1981, and returned to Brandon. The Very Reverend Archpriest Anthony Simbalist died on December 10, 1988 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Brandon Municipal Cemetery.

Herman Arason was born on February 17, 1923 in Glenboro, MB. Herman's grandparents emigrated from Iceland in the 1870s. He married Donna Elvene Baldwin (1928-2006). Together they had three children: Signe, Laura and John..
Herman began his working life in Carrott River and was employed at a lumber yard and with Manitoba Hydro. From 1943-1945, he served in the Air Force where he trained as a navigator. Herman obtained a diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba, being awarded the Nuffield Foundation Scholarship, which gave him the opportunity to study English farming practices. The remainder of his career was spent farming in the Glenboro area. Herman was active in the community, serving on and with numerous committees and organizations, including; the Agriculture Society, the Kiwanis Club, 4H Club, Curling Club, Glenboro Lutheran Church, Argyle Lutheran Parish, Olafson Brothers Foundation, Raystone Drop In Center and the Credit Union Board. From 1966-1980, he served as a municipal councillor for Argyle Municipality. Herman Arason died on January 11, 2008 at the Glenboro Health Centre. He is buried at Glenboro Cemetery.

Arlie Emma Hogg (nee Harrison) was born August 25, 1895 on section 36-9-24, near Oak Lake, MB. She was educated at, and lived all but the last six months of her life in, Oak Lake. She married Russell Ivan Hogg (1895-1961), a longtime editor of the Oak Lake newspaper, on January 7, 1919. Together they had three daughters: Eileen, Lila and Rubie. A homemaker, Arlie was also actively involved with her husband in publishing the paper. She was also a painter, who received awards and recognition for her works, which included landscapes, flowers, plant and animal life. She was a lifetime member of St. Alban's Anglican Church, active in the ACW and a charter member of the Eastern Star. Arlie Hogg died on May 2, 1986 in Virden, MB. She is buried at Oak Lake Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Armstrong (nee Breakey) was born on May 6, 1923 in Pierson, MB. She lived in Pierson until 1934, when her family moved to Vista. She attended school at Culross and Vista. Dorothy married Hugh Armstrong (1922-2004) on November 11, 1944, after working in Winnipeg Municipal Hospital for two years. The couple had three children: Katherine, Foster and Grant. Dorothy and Hugh lived and farmed on 4-19-21 until October 1991, when Hugh's health necessitated a move to Shoal Lake. When she was not occupied with her family or the farm, Dorothy was active in volunteer work through her church, with the Women's Institute and being a Cub leader. She and Hugh also worked to help organize Vista's Homecoming Day in 1984. In her retirement she wrote and published "The History of The Breakey Family," and spent many hours at the Morley House Personal Care Home supporting friends and family members. Dorothy Armstrong died on November 22, 2014 in Shoal Lake, MB. She is buried at Rossburn Municipal Cemetery.

Elmer Roy Armstrong was born on February 25, 1925 in Elkhorn, MB. After working in a number of places - Princeton, BC, Winnipg and Brandon - Elmer returned to his family farm in 1955. He took full control of the farm in 1960, when his parents retired and moved to Vancouver. Elmer married Leona Holenski Pappel (1932-2016) in 1966. The couple had no children of their own, but Leona had a son, Norman, with her first husband Edgar. Elmer Armstrong died on August 11, 2019 in Virden, MB. He is buried at Elkhorn Cemetery.

Hugh Armstrong was born on March 16, 1922 at Vista, MB. He attended Perth School before farming at home with his father. He later farmed his grandfather, John D. McKinnon's, land SW 4-19-24. In 1981, the farm received a Century Family Farm Award. Hugh married Dorothy Breakey (1923-2014) in 1944, and together they had three children: Katherine, Foster and Grant. Hugh Armstrong died on April 26, 2004. He is buried at Rossburn Municipal Cemetery.

Alfred Edwin "Eddy" Arnold was born on December 10, 1898 in Toronto, ON. He moved to the Shoal Lake area of Manitoba with his family in 1900 and completed his schooling in Shoal Lake. A farmer and Clydesdale horse breeder from 1925-1981, Eddy began his career in the heavy horse business in 1918, introducing the "Croydon" line in 1923. He showed his horses at fairs at Brandon, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Guelph, and Ottawa, as well as the Chicago International and the Toronto Royal Winter Fair, the latter for forty years. He was also a respected and sought after judge, and active as a mentor to generations of horse enthusiasts.
A strong supporter of local fairs, he was a long-time director and president of the Shoal Lake Agriculture Society, as well as a director and president of both the Manitoba Clydesdale and the Canadian Clydesdale Associations. He recieved numerous awards and life memberships for his contributions, including: the Centennial Merit Award from the Manitoba Horse Breeders (1970); life membership in the Shoal Lake Agricultural Society (1971); life membership in the Strathclair Agricultural Society (1975); honorary mebmership in both the Manitoba Clydesdale Club and the Clydesdale Horse Association; induction into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (1984); and the Canadian Commemorative Medal for significant contribution to the community (1992). Eddy never married. Edwin Arnold died on September 23, 2005.

Verlie Sarah Arnott (nee Nay) was born on December 7, 1900 on her parents farm. She received her education at Bethel, Killarney Collegiate and Brandon Normal School. She taught for just over three years before her marriage to Merlin Hicks Arnott (1895-1966) in 1925. Following the marriage Verlie became a full-time homemaker and the couple raised three children: Lillian, Glenn and Jim. Verlie was a member of the Rowland and Killarney United Churches; she played the organ at the Rowland Church for many years and was an active member of the UCW. She resumed teaching in 1943 at Rowland, Farfield, Jacques, Fairburn and Medora schools. In addition to her passion for music, her creative activities included baking, knitting and crocheting. Verlie Arnott died on February 10, 2003 in Killarney, MB. She is buried at Killarney and District Cemetery.

Arthur Galbraith was born on May 20, 1894 in Hartney, MB. He attended school in Hartney and then Agricultural College in Winnipeg from 1915-1917. Art began faming with his father in 1910, and officially took over the farm in 1923. He continued to farm until 1958. Although not a registered veterinarian, Art learned about vet work from Dr. Rud in Hartney, and his services were wideley used in the district. Art married Verna Mabel Glover (1900-1973) on April 9, 1924. Together they raised four children: Robert, Marjorie, Anna and Lorna. On January 20, 1979, Art married Lavinia May Russell (nee Hodgson) (1912-2001). Art served as Reeve of Cameron Municipality from 1946-1975, and was also a member of the Orange Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, the Eastern Star and the United Church. Arthur Galbraith died on March 4, 1993. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Edward Turner was born 1913 in England. Sponsored by the Hudson's Bay Company, he immigrated to Canada in 1931. That fall he was sent by the unemployment agency to Riding Mountain National Park to clear scrub. For a number of years Ed worked on farms during harvest, did chores for the Ramgren family in winter, and cut ice at Otter Lake. He also learned how to shoot and snare rabbits, which he sold to fox farm owners. In 1937, Ed purchased 120 acres adjoining the Scandinavia Church, cutting and selling wood to pay for the land. Ed married Lorna Mary Tiller (1921-2003) on January 30, 1942, and together they had two children: James and Dianne. In October 1942, Ed joined the Canadian Army, serving for two years before receiving a medical discharge. Following the Second World War, Ed and Lorna sold the farm, purchasing and operating a general store in the Onanole district until 1956. For the next sixteen years they owned and operated the Outdoor Roller Rink at Clear Lake. In 1962, Ed became the manager of the Erickson Credit Union, and the couple built a home in Erickson. Ed was elected mayor of Erickson in 1968, a position he held for eight years. When they sold the roller rink in 1972, the Turners bought the Clearl Lake bowling alley, which they operated until 1979. The couple retired to Onanole, where they were members of the United Church and Ed continued to do some work in real estate. Edward Turner died in 1994. He is buried at Scandinavian Cemetery.
Arthur Koping was born December 7, 1905 on section 15-17-17 in the RM of Clanwilliam. After his father died, Arthur, his brother John and his mother returned to Finland. When Arthur returned to Clanwilliam in 1926, he could not speak English. After a year with his Koping grandparents, Art went to New York where he did construction work and learned carpentry skills. Art returned to Manitoba in 1930, working at whatever jobs were availavle, carpentry, painting, paper hanging etc. At Riding Mountain National Park, he did road work, as well as carpentry, including helping build relief camps, the Superintendants house and the golf course clubhouse. In 1934, he built a house and married Lillie Marie Sundmark (1902-1970). The couple's only child died shortly after he was born. Art was asked to buy the family homstead in 1943, although the Kopings continued to live there. During World War II, Art began working for Harper Construction Company building homes for grain buyers in Manitoba and Saskatchewan. As his job required him being away for long periods, Art built a house for Lillie in Erickson in 1948. Following Lillie's death, Art married Mary Booth (1910-2006) in 1973. Arthur Koping died in 1988. He is buried in Finland.

J. Hilton Ashton was born on March 19, 1919 in Mulvihill, Manitoba. He lived in Mulvihill until 1925, before moving to Fleming, SK and Butler, MB, before settling in Virden, MB in 1930. Ashton was a journeyman electrician by trade. During World War II he served in the Air Force, serving a year in Canada and four years in England as a fighter pilot, seeing approximately 2 ½ years of active duty. Ashton married June MacMillan of Winnpeg, and together they had five children: Richard, Bruce, Janet, Judith and Glen. Hilton Ashton died in 1996 and is buried in Virden, MB.

Aubrey Henderson "Aub" Hume was born on January 21, 1903 in Oak River, MB. Aub lived his live in the Oak River community, first travelling for Imperial Oil and then running Hume's Hardware. Aub married Gwendolen Phyllis Salmon (1906-1983) on May 26, 1938 and together they raised two children: Jack and Margaret. Aub was very active in baseball and curling, and was made a life member of the Manitoba Curling Association. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travellers (UCT) for 57 years. Aubrey Hume died on February 18, 1987 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Oak River Cemetery.
