William Charles Curle was born on January 30, 1910 on the NW section of 24-12-18 near Justice, MB. A farmer until 1960, Charles then entered the construction business. He married Helga Rosa Johnson (1913-1981) on November 19, 1937 and together hey had six children: Gerald, Dennis, Gaynor, Caroline, David, and Terry. The couple lived at Justice until 1967, then moved to Winnipeg. Charles Curle died on September 23, 1989 in Winnipeg, MB. He was survived by his second wife Delores. He is buried at Humesville Cemetery.

Charles Sage was born around 1898. He farmed just west of his father's farm near Neepawa, MB. Charlie was always active in community affairs and for some years operated a threshing outfit run by steam engine, threshing for serveral neighbours. With his first wife, Bessie Georgina Martin (1906?-1933), he had a daughter Joan. Charlie maried his sister-in-law Vera Maud Martin (1913-2012) in 1935, and together they had a son, Edward. Charlie enjoyed dancing and playing the violin, as well as various sports. Charles Sage died in 1978 in Neepawa, MB. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Cliff moved to Elkhorn in 1951, and in 1968 became the curator for the Elkhorn Automobile Museum. Prior to assuming the role of curator, Cliff was involved with the museum board, working with the first curator, Isaac Clarkson. While living in Elkhorn, Cliff served on the town counil and was chairman of the Elkhorn Centennial Committee in 1970. Clifford McDonald Clarke died on August 17, 1989 in Virden, MB. He is buried at Elkhorn Cemetery.

Crawford Rose was born on August 6, 1898 in the Rural Municipality of Odanah. A family physician, Crawford had medical practices at Radisson, SK, Coleman, AB and finally Aurora, ON. He retired in 1968. Crawford married Julia Anna Pommer (1902-1977) on September 4, 1926. Together they had two children: Clayton and Mary Elizabeth. In the 1940s and 1950s, Crawford served as Councillor and Mayor of Aurora. There is a Crawford Rose Drive in the city of Aurora. Crawford Rose died in 1990 in Aurora, ON. He is buried at Aurora Cemetery.

William David Willey was born on August 30, 1906 in Hattiesburg, Mississipi. He spent five years in Ontario during World War I, but otherwise lived in Maryland until immigrating to Canada in 1922. For three years he worked for the Canadian National Railway (CNR), before joining the staff at the Brandon Mental Health Centre (BMHC) in 1926. He retired from the BMHC in 1971. Dave married Jeannie Agnes Mayben (1909-1990) in 1959. They had no children. Dave Willey died in 1993 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Rosewood Memorial Gardens.

Donald Fleming Parrott was born on September 12, 1916 in Winnipeg, MB. In 1936, he moved to Red Lake, ON where he worked as an engineer for Campbell Gold Mine until his retirement. Don served overseas in the Second World War with the PPCLI for five years, from 1940-1945. Don married Mary Bridget Frances Crowley (1912-1998) in 1943, and together they had four children: Daine, John, Constance and Susan. Don had a keen interest in prospecting, history and mining. He was the author of the book "The Red Lake Gold Rush 1926." Donald Parrott died on June 10, 2002 in Thunder Bay, ON. He is buried at Brandon Hills Cemetery.

Dorothy Jean Armstrong (nee Breakey) was born on May 6, 1923 in Pierson, MB. She lived in Pierson until 1934, when her family moved to Vista. She attended school at Culross and Vista. Dorothy married Hugh Armstrong (1922-2004) on November 11, 1944, after working in Winnipeg Municipal Hospital for two years. The couple had three children: Katherine, Foster and Grant. Dorothy and Hugh lived and farmed on 4-19-21 until October 1991, when Hugh's health necessitated a move to Shoal Lake. When she was not occupied with her family or the farm, Dorothy was active in volunteer work through her church, with the Women's Institute and being a Cub leader. She and Hugh also worked to help organize Vista's Homecoming Day in 1984. In her retirement she wrote and published "The History of The Breakey Family," and spent many hours at the Morley House Personal Care Home supporting friends and family members. Dorothy Armstrong died on November 22, 2014 in Shoal Lake, MB. She is buried at Rossburn Municipal Cemetery.

Melvin Earl Murray was born on October 16, 1901 in Neepawa, MB and he lived his entire life in there. Earl left school at the age of 15 to assist an uncle on the farm; he was one of a number of young men who took the place of men who were called to serve in the armed services during the First World War. He worked with his father on his farm until startin a transportation business locally in 1927. In 1932, he obtained a contract with General Motors to sell G.M. products. Subsequently he contracted to sell IHC farm machineray and later added a contract as distributor of Thomas school buses for the Province of Manitoba. Earl married Margaret Mary McIntosh (1902-1994) on November 5, 1924 and together they had one son, Gerald. Earl was active in church and community affairs, service clubs and sporting circles. Among his awards were The Town of Neepawa Honorary Citizen award, The Golden Boy award, The Red Cross Service award, a Chamber of Commerce award, Motor Dealers awards provincially and nationally and Her Majesty The Queen Silver Anniversary award. Earl Murray died on September 4, 1986 in Brandon, MB. He is buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Alfred Edwin "Eddy" Arnold was born on December 10, 1898 in Toronto, ON. He moved to the Shoal Lake area of Manitoba with his family in 1900 and completed his schooling in Shoal Lake. A farmer and Clydesdale horse breeder from 1925-1981, Eddy began his career in the heavy horse business in 1918, introducing the "Croydon" line in 1923. He showed his horses at fairs at Brandon, Calgary, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, Guelph, and Ottawa, as well as the Chicago International and the Toronto Royal Winter Fair, the latter for forty years. He was also a respected and sought after judge, and active as a mentor to generations of horse enthusiasts.
A strong supporter of local fairs, he was a long-time director and president of the Shoal Lake Agriculture Society, as well as a director and president of both the Manitoba Clydesdale and the Canadian Clydesdale Associations. He recieved numerous awards and life memberships for his contributions, including: the Centennial Merit Award from the Manitoba Horse Breeders (1970); life membership in the Shoal Lake Agricultural Society (1971); life membership in the Strathclair Agricultural Society (1975); honorary mebmership in both the Manitoba Clydesdale Club and the Clydesdale Horse Association; induction into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame (1984); and the Canadian Commemorative Medal for significant contribution to the community (1992). Eddy never married. Edwin Arnold died on September 23, 2005.

Edward Robert McGill was born on September 21, 1912 in Vancouver, BC. The family returned to Manitoba in 1919, and settled in Brandon, MB. Ed received his schooling in Brandon, including one year at Brandon College before he enrolled at Queen's University. Graduating in 1934, with a Bachelor of Commerce, Ed was employed by Inco at Sudbury before enlisting in the RCAF in 1940. He was posted to No. 4 Service Flying School in Saskatoon and subsequently became a flying instructor. While in Saskatoon Ed married Marguarite Eve Shaw (1918-1992) on May 30, 1942. Together they had four children: Mickey, Douglas, Patricia and Frances. From Saskatoon, Ed was posted to No. 19 EFTS in Virden where he became C.S.D. In 1943, Ed was sent overseas with the City of Edmonton 418 Night Intruder Squadron. In 1944, he was appointed CO of "B" flight and promoted to squadron leader.
Ed returned to Brandon in 1946, where he was appointed secretary manager of the Brandon Flying Club. While in this position, Ed also served as chief flying instructor, airport manager, co-founder and president of Maple Leaf Aviation and helped to organize the Flying Farmers in Manitoba. Upon his retirement in 1971, the Brandon Airport was renamed McGill Field to honor his contribution to aviation in western Manitoba. In 1969, Ed was elected to the Manitoba Legislature as the member for Brandon West. He was re-elected in 1973 and 1977, then retired from active politics in 1981.
Ed was committed to community service, and was a past president of the Brandon Kinsmen Club, the Brandon Gegneral Hospital (BGH) board of directors, the Brandon Golf and Country Club and the Wasagaming Golf Club. He served as a member of the Brandon Police Commission and was appointed to the federal Civil Aviation Tribunal. Ed was a member of Tweed Lodge #113 AF & AM, a member of the Brandon Scottish Rite and past master of the Brandon Chapter of Rose Croix. Edward McGill died on December 3, 1996 in Brandon, MB.

Effie Irene McPhail (nee Weir) was born on October 31, 1900 is Rossland, BC. In 1903, her family moved to Manitoba and Effie spent the rest of her life in Brandon and the surrounding area. Growing up in the Hunter district northwest of Brandon, she attended school there and then in Brandon. A graduate of the Brandon Normal School, Effie began teaching at the age of 16, and taught at Roseland School and in Rapid City and Rivers. Effie married Alex McPhail (1897-1989) on March 29, 1923. The couple farmed in the Forrest district and raised four children: Ronald, Malcom, Archie and Donna. The McPhails were both very active in many community, church, sports, agricultural and political organizations. Effie was involved in the Brandon Council of Women, the United Church Women, the Liberal Party, and the Assiniboine Historical Society. She was also one of the founding members of the Daly House Mueum. Effie was the Chair of the Westman Oral History Association's "Voices of Yesteryear" project, which produced a collection of audio recordings of Westman-area residents. She herself interviewed a number of individuals and was interviewed twice, once on her family history and life experiences and the other on early church development in Brandon. Effie McPhail died on July 7, 1999 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Humesville Cemetery.

Eleanor married Joseph Shipley (1896-1989) on February 24, 1925. Together they had five children: Harold, Lorne, Aileen, Lindsay and Allan. Eleanor Fison Warren (nee Brayshay) was born on April 30, 1902 in Laughrne, Wales. Although her father had come to Canada in 1891, and her parents were married in the RM of Shoal Lake, her mother returned to Wales for Eleanor's birth. Eleanor attended high school in Birtle, MB. In 1929, Eleanor married Major Oliver Quin "OQ" Warren (1884-1949) and together they had four daughters: Phoebe, Diana, Cynthia and Penelope. Following her marriage, Eleanor was a farm housewife. After her husband died she stayed on the farm but hired help, while also working as a post office clerk and then a part-time municipal clerk. She retired in 1968. For many years Eleanor played the organ for St. Alban's Anglican Church and supported the Blenheim Remebrance Club, whose members sewed comfortors for soldiers overseas. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Birtle branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, served the local school board and drove many seniors to events in surrounding communities. Eleanor was awarded the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers and the Governor General's Caring Canadian Award (posthumous). Eleanor Warren died on April 30, 2003 in Winnipeg, MB. She is buried at Birtle Cemetery.

Elizabeth Jane Adams (nee Bulloch) was born on January 8, 1886 in Lanark, ON. She left Ontario in 1904 to join family in the West. Elizabeth married Robert Adams (1878-1957) on July 25, 1906 and together had four children: Robert Stewart, Agnes Wilda, Jessie Doreen and Marion. The couple farmed at various locations during their married life. As newlyweds, they farmed the homestead at NW 2-6-29. In 1924, they moved to Sinclair SW 35-7-29, then bought NW quarter 26-7-29 from the Hudson's Bay Company and finally in 1928, they purchased SE quarter 34-7-29. During these years, Elizabeth assisted on the farm and also worked as an assistant to the local doctor. In 1923, Elizabeth and Robert's car was struck by a train when they stalled on the crossing at Sinclair while hauling supplies.
Elizabeth and Robert retired to Sinclair in 1949. After Robert's death, Elizabeth moved out to the farm with her son, then later lived with daughter Marion and son-in-law Bill Mayert. In 1973, Elizabeth moved to the Westman Nursing Home in Virden, then in 1984 moved to Willowview Personal Care Home in Reston. Elizabeth Adams died on September 1, 1993 in Reston, MB. She is buried at Sinclair Cemetery.

Elmer Roy Armstrong was born on February 25, 1925 in Elkhorn, MB. After working in a number of places - Princeton, BC, Winnipg and Brandon - Elmer returned to his family farm in 1955. He took full control of the farm in 1960, when his parents retired and moved to Vancouver. Elmer married Leona Holenski Pappel (1932-2016) in 1966. The couple had no children of their own, but Leona had a son, Norman, with her first husband Edgar. Elmer Armstrong died on August 11, 2019 in Virden, MB. He is buried at Elkhorn Cemetery.

Elmer Howard Peeler was born on March 12, 1907 in Neepawa, MB. Following his mother's death in 1911, he and his sister were taken to family in Ontario. Elmer returned to Manitoba four years later. He attended school at Ospery and Birtle. Aside from a few years in Hamilton, ON (1929-1934), Elmer lived most of his adult life in the Birtle area. Elmer married Daisy Dorothy Hunt (1914-2000) on October 30, 1936 and together they had four children: George, James, Marjorie and Linda. Elmer and Daisy retired from farming in 1970 and in 1982, moved to Souris. Elmer was a member of the United Church and active in farm affairs, the Manitoba Pool and Birtle Co-op. Elmer Peeler died on January 13, 1984 in Souris, MB. He is buried at Birtle Cemetery.

Elsie Carnahan (nee Humphries) was born on February 24, 1901 in Brandon, MB. Her initial schooling took place at East Ward School, located at 4th Street and Princess Avenue. In 1912, her parents moved to a farm northwest of Brandon, and she attended Hunter and Mayne schools, as well as high school in Kemnay. In 1919, Elsie attended Brandon Normal School. In 1924, she received her second class professional certificate from Winnipeg Normal School. Her teaching experience in rural schools included Delton, Minore, and Hunter school divisions. Elsie married William Stanley Carnahan (1899-1997) on November 10, 1926. She and her husband raised two children, Gordon and Eleanor, on their Kemnay farm, before retiring to Brandon in 1976. Elsie Carnahan died on April 2, 2003 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Alexander Cemetery.

Mary Elsie Taylor (nee Greer) was born on January 24, 1898 in Stayner, ON. The family moved to Rapid City, MB in 1906. Elsie took her teacher training in Portage la Prairie and taught in one-room schoolhouses throughout Manitoba. She married William Taylor (1888-1986) on February 7, 1933 in Newdale, SK and together they had four children: James, Margaret, Kathleen, and Lorna. Elsie and WIlliam farmed at Emerson for thirteen years, then moved to Haney, BC in 1946, when William retired. After eleven years in British Columbia the couple moved to Rapid City. Upon their return to Manitoba, Elsie taught in McCreary, Glendale and Rapid City. She retired in 1963. Elsie Taylor died on August 19, 1992 in Brandon, MB. She is buried at Rapid City Cemetery.
