Scope and Content
Group portrait taken in front of what might be Grund Church. The large group of people, which includes children, adults, a horse drawn carriage and a couple of bicycles, may be members of the church congregation.
Mildred Grace Musgrove was born on July 14, 1902 in Boissevain, MB. She attended Boissevain School, and furthered her education at Brandon and Winnipeg Normal Schools, Dominion Business College, Wesley College and the University of Manitoba. Mildred taught at many rural schools before joining the staff at Neepawa Collegiate Institute in 1936. Although she taught a number of subjects, English was her specialty, and while at Neepawa, she taught and mentored Margaret Laurence. In 1967, she was awarded the Centennial Medal in 1967, for service to the nation. Mildred retired from teaching in 1969.
Mildred had a lifelong interest in curling and golf, and in 1990, she opened the Scott Tournament of Hearts in Neepawa. In retirement she travelled extensively, as well as worked as a volunteer. She never married. Mildred Musgrove died on February 22, 2001 in Boissevain, MB.

As part of the Westman Oral History Collection, this collection was accessioned by the McKee Archives in 1998. The original tapes from the Westman Oral History project were deposited in the Brandon Public Library. Copies of these originals were made by Margaret Pollex of the Brandon University Language Lab at the request of Eileen McFadden, University Archivist in the early 1990s. These copies compose the collection held in the McKee Archives.

Mildred Kathryn Kilburn (nee Scott) was born on April 8, 1916 in Eden village. Her relations on her mother's side were the Honeymans, early pioneers in the Eden district who emigrated from England. Mildred attended Eden School and later Normal School then taught at Springhill School. Mildred married Roy Goodwin Kilburn (1919-2004) on July 19, 1941, and together they had three children: Richard, Ronald and Paulette. During their marriage the Kilburn's farmed in the Springhill District and travelled whenever they could. Mildred returned to teaching in 1959, teaching at Salisbury, Iroquois and Springhill Hutterite schools. She retired in 1976. Mildred Kilburn died on January 15, 2005 in Neepawa, MB. She is buried at Riverside Cemetery.

Mildred Orriss (nee Nixon) was born on February 27, 1899 in Boissevain, MB. From 1918-1923, she was a store clerk, before training as a Registered Nurse. From 1926-1930, she nursed in Winnipeg and California. Mildred married William Cecil Orriss (1898-1979) in October 1930 and together they had one daughter, Mary Jean. Cecil farmed in the district until retiring in 1959, and he and Mildred moved to Boissevain, where Mildred returned to teaching. She retired in 1970. Mildred was active in the United Church, the Boissevain Women's Institute, the Agricultural Society and many other community activities. Mildred Orriss died sometime after May 1981. She is likely buried at Boissevain and Morton Cemetery.

Photograph of an "outing" by train to Forrest, MB. Writing on the back of the photo states that the man in the striped blazer is very likely T. Mayne Daly. Photo was taken at the Great North West Railway station.
Mrs. Hilda Rosa Osmond (nee Bridgeman) was born in Hampshire, England in 1888 to parents Edwin Samuel Bridgeman (b.16 Jul 1852; d. 19 June 1922, Brandon) and Rosa Holkham (b. 26 Mar 1859; d. 27 May 1927, Brandon). Edwin was a sailor and Rosa was a dressmaker.
Following the death of her brother Edwin Frederick Bridgeman (1886-1890), the family immigrated to Canada in 1891. The Bridgeman's took the train to Griswold, Manitoba, and settled near Edwin's brother, Albert Bridgeman, and together they farmed the N 1/2 of 36-12-23. The Bridgeman's had three more children, Ellen Grace (b. 27 Jan 1893; d. 22 Feb 1893), Harry Volantine/Valentine (b. 14 Feb 1894), and Charlie Cuthbert (b. 03 Aug 1896; d. 25 Aug 1901). Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bridgeman retired in 1913 and moved to Brandon where they lived until their respective deaths. The couple are interred in the Brandon Municipal Cemetery.
Hilda married William Arthur Osmond (b. 1867; d. 26 Oct 1943) of Baisingstoke, England, on 31 Jan 1913. They had a daughter Nellie who later married Glen Mossey. The family continued to farm the property on section 36.
Hilda Rosa Osmond passed away in 1980 at the age of 91. She is interred in the Greenwood Cemetery near Harding, Manitoba, where her husband and siblings also rest.
